It's closed because if you have Android other than straight from Google, rooting your phone voids your warranty. To side load, you have to root. You can't just install anything you want unless you go thru the process of installing rooting in a certain way to avoid the flash counter manufacturers such as Samsung implement. The Samsung music player doesn't always pull up the controls. Managing music on the S3 is a chore because of the way Android manages it's file system. It doesn't always pick up music on SD cards. I've been thru this many times. You find the same issues on XDA if u don't believe me.
False. You can install any apk by checking the option to install 3rd party applications. This is how the amazon store works. You only need root for apps that need SU permissions. You can put your phone back to stock and your warranty will be fine. I'm quite aware of the advantages of iOS. To simply lie about how android works shows your bias. Typed from my iPad 2.
False. My Asus TF700 tablet was rooted about five minutes after i got it, warranty still intact. False. Side-loading simply involes checking a box in Developer Options. This statement makes no sense. Rooting is device specific, yes. Other than that, I have no idea what "flash counter" you're talking about. And I'm no Android newbie: I own four different Android devices from three different manufacturers, all rooted and/or unlocked. Including Samsung. I don't own an S3, so I can't testify to that. But I've never had an Android device that had the slightest problem reading media from an SD card.
You can root and unroot my friend. Nice for you to call me out as a fanboy as i thought i was fair and upfront with my biases. Not that i care. I'm a big boy who can make his own decisions without feeling like the things he buys is attached to his self worth.
Biased? Im using BOTH platforms. You cannot just install ANY apk....lol. Installing .apk requires ROOT access...lol. Putting your phone back to stock because manufacturers are putting flash counters to detect rooting. Google Triangle Away........
This has been an interesting monologue considering I don't evenown an s3 but know enough about some big vulnerability allowing root access for everyone without extensive risk of bricking. Keep spreading half truths bro, you really repping your 'side'
So, you're saying that because SOME apks require root (which can be done easily and doesn't void warranty) and because SOME devices use flash counters (which can be easily circumvented), Android is more closed than iOS, which can't truly be customized in any way?
Never said Android was "more closed". I said manufacturers and carriers are trying to close it for their benefit.
I don't understand what you are talking about. You can pretty much install anything on a android device without root. The only thing you need root for is to uninstall some carrier bloatware, install new roms, and backup APK's to your sd cards. Everything else you can do without root.
I get your roundabout point. It's like pulling teeth though. You should just say that you prefer a stock ios device over a stock android. That's not a bad opinion either. I was okay with my stock Razr for more than a year. Now that it's support is coming less and less, I have the option to flash something else on it. If I ever get sick of an ios (HEAVENS NO!!), I can't do that. I can't take the risk of voiding my warranty either...even if I won't void anything should I do everything right. That's what I'm saying. What you've said in the last two pages about android are flat out wrong and continue to be wrong. Is there a medium learning curve to root your phone the right way? Absolutely, but once you know how, it's fairly straightforward. Is stock battery life generally better on Apple products? Yes, Android is ass when it comes to battery management Is ios easier to use than Android's ui? Yes, except the ios hasn't changed for the last 6 years, and believe it or not, there are some people who want more.
I have an iPad...I would like to get a Nexus 7...and I would also like to get a Surface. Why? Because I ****ing love toys. They're all good enough to do the job of a tablet...if they arent, then go buy a laptop with some more oooomf!
