Why would the Rockets, a young team that's building chemistry, give up solid young assets for an aging 30 year old player who is clearly overachieving, and then, after the trade, still be nowhere near contender status?

Why would a team trade a couple of non-lottery picks who are unlikely to ever be anywhere near as good as Anderson Varejao for a player as good as Anderson Varejao?

Or why would a team then flip Varejao to Utah for Paul Millsap, who is also light years better than either of these non-lottery picks ever figure to be? [I'd rather flip Varejao for Millsap myself.]

Is there a single 30-year-old human being on the planet who is not "aging"? Is there a single living organism on the planet who is not aging?

Now that Harden is a Rocket, we have an all star caliber player. But it's not enough to be a real contender for the title.
I doubt that we can have Love, Aldridge or this kind of established player in the front court. Then, i think that we should try to find a potential all star caliber because we don't have one in our roster.
And i see 2 players that we could make offers for: Derrick Williams ans Derrick Favors. They were considered as potential all stars when they were drafted but they have Millsap and Love behind them (less for Favors).
In fact, the one i think the more is Williams because Favors is getting more and more minutes (and Millsap less). He is better and has more potential than Patterson, Morris, Motiejunas or Jones. We he were drafted behind Irving, he was considered as a future all star.
What do you think about that as he could become available soon ?

Everybody ages but at 30 years old Varejao is a horrible fit for 23 year old Harden. You'd expect Harden to hit his peak and be ready to compete at age 28, by then Varejao would be ready for retirement.

Royce is a distraction on a bad contract until he starts showing up for work consistently, and teams will stay away from him till then.
So basically, it's Motiejunas and cash for Varejao.
Morey would have to do it just in terms of assets, but Cleveland would have to see Motiejunas as a potential star. I don't see it.

Now Rip+#1 for $1 mil and capspace is a legit option for Cleveland. But they don't need Houston for that, it can be a separate deal.

We should go after Thomas Robinson instead of Cousins. Good character guy. I believe his numbers are down, his development hampered and very underrated at the moment because hes playing under Coach Keith Not-so-smart.

    C - Asik/Smith/DMo
    PF - Morris/Robinson/Hayes
    SF - Parsons/Delfino
    SG - Harden/Douglas
    PG - Lin/Thomas/Machado or Beverley

    Turkish big men unite!

Utah gets great value for 2 expiring contracts as well as extra cap space.

Sac gets to rent Jefferson and see if they want to re-sign him, and they get Thomas Robinson's old college teammate.

    Lin/Douglas/Beverly
    Harden/Delfino/Cook
    Parsons/Delfino/Cook/Jones
    Millsap/Hayes/Motiejunas/Jones
    Cousins/Smith/Hayes

Interesting. I think the Kings would try and stick another fat contract like Salmons with us if that's the return they would get. If the Maloofs are trying to sell the team, getting rid of bad contracts is key. (I'm guessing this was a big factor in the vetoed trade and why they accepted the package from LAC.)

i would prefer to see something like that.
    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=cq4fje9

then maybe dump some picks to the por/kings to make them happy.

btw, i have no clue how meyers leonard is doing. the past few times i saw him play, he was very clumsy and trips himself at least 2-3 times a game.

    Delfino. Dougles, Jones, Smith
    --For--
    Enes Kanter and Alec Burks

Utah needs help at the point (Dougles) & outside the arc (Dougles, Delfino,?Jones?). This move would soften the blow IF Jefferson AND/OR Milsap walk. So its a help now and later for them when/if Smith (sweet contract for anyone in a rotation -PLUS a big that is flashing promies (PER 23.4), too) and Jones (Milsap's role for 7M less over the next 3 years - not as good today but soild and future is bright) mature PLUS now they can move on any player in a trade. Cleans up the Alec Bucks contract --> no bad contracts going forward.

Houston "Turkish big men unite!" Burks new start = new player (like the one that came out of University of Colorado at Boulder and part of his rookie year).

    8 man rotation
    Lin, Harden, Parsons, D-Mo, Asik
    Burks(1/2), Morris(3/4) Kanter(5,4)

Lin, Donuts and Morris to Sacramento for Cousins, Brooks and J.Johnson

Brooks' shooting ability would complement Harden for the time being, and we can upgrade in FA if need be. Johnson can at least defend from the 3 spot.

    Asik - G.Smith
    Cousins - Patterson - Jones - White
    Parsons - Johnson
    Harden - Delfino - Cook
    Brooks - Douglas - Machado - Beverly

You keep wanting to trade Lin. You'll notice he and Harden have played well together lately. Morey will wait to see if that continues. In any case, Lin won't be traded. Certainly not yet.

    Rockets: Dunleavy - Przybilla
Bucks: Aldrich - Cook - rights to Leunen

Houston waives/buys out Przybilla, while creating an extra mil in cap space.

Milwaukee does this as a forward looking move. They have a lot of vets they will most likely not re-sign, not getting minutes.

Interesting. The way i see it, it's essentially Dunleavy+cash for Cook, because I don't think they'd play Aldrich.
I wouldn't do it if I were them, but who knows.

Raptor pick from OKC going to Portland

    Why

Rockets- LMA would fit nice with Harden. Taking on Perkins sucks, but all he'd have to do is play similar to Asik. Also frees up more time for Greg Smith.

Trailblazers- If they decide to part ways with LMA, they get young prospects in Lamb and Dmo/Jones (which ever they choose), the Raptor pick, and save money. Nice way to jump start the rebuilding process.

OKC- Asik would be the guy they wanted Perkins to be. Ppat is another role playing big on a cheap contract. This would make them more of a contender than they already were while still being able to contend for years to come.

    Lin/Douglas
    Harden/Delfino
    Parsons/Morris
    LMA/Jones
    Perkins/Smith

This isn't really a trade, but I think we should trade Toney Douglas and then pick up Jet Chang.
