Why would the Kings want that trade? Dumping those salaries mean virtually nothing to a team that isn't way over the cap and aren't looking to be major free agency players. In order to get a star "prospect" we'll have to give up at least one proven good NBA player. That'll be the tradeoff. If the Kings give up on Cousins they won't want guys in return that are just as unproven but have no hope of being stars. Think of it this way. If Cousins were in the draft THIS YEAR where would he go?...probably still a top 5 draft pick. Do you really think we could acquire a top 5 pick with Donatas and Morris ??
I think people need to remember that this is the Kings we're talking about. Their FO is among the worst in the league The coach is the opposite of his last name. They draft players and throwthem out on the court to see what happens. There is a pattern they exhibit and I don't think is all poor drafting. Who was the last big man...heck any man...that they have developed? Cousins is worth the gamble. Yes he's a headcase but I think the Rockets could get him back on track. They like developing big men and if Cousins didn't care, he wouldn't show emotion...except laughter...right Kevin? He's on a rookie contract and the only risk is the talent you might be giving away but I think he's worth taking a shot on if the door is open. if it takes getting Salmons then i am ok with that too. I think Salmons could even turn it around. He's basically gone over to the Kings to rot in that "system". i would try and keep Patterson on the team at all costs. The 2 are friends and Pat's biggest asset would be to help keep him grounded which I think would be a key piece to Cousins success.
I don't see us giving up any of our starting 5 (except the PFs) for this guy. Outside of that, we really don't have much to offer.
It's going to be really interesting to see what Cousins gets when that rookie scale contract expires. Some dumb team holding his Bird rights will max him. You just know it.
It would take at least one of Asik or Parsons, if not both to get Cousins. He is worth a top 3 draft pick. Parsons may fetch you a top 7 pick, but he won't get Cousins. Remember, Lowry was basically traded for a mid lottery pick. Parsons is not up to Lowry's level, but his value is slightly higher due to his age and contract. Asik + Parsons will get the Kings going, but at least one of them has to be traded. I would actually bet the farm on Cousins. If we can keep one, we'd still have Harden/Cousins/Lin + Parsons/Asik as our starting group and we'd have some more young players left over. This is a crazy line up that will be contenders in no time.
Why we should NOT want Cousins. Stay away from him. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/225149/Cousins_Apologizes_For_Verbal_Altercation_With_Smart
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/225149/Cousins_Apologizes_For_Verbal_Altercation_With_Smart DeMarcus Cousins and Keith Smart engaged in a verbal altercation after halftime of the Sacramento Kings' 97-85 loss to the Clippers on Friday. Cousins remained in the locker room and didn't play for the remainder of the game. "It was conduct detrimental to the team and we left it at that," Smart said without elaborating. "What happens in the locker room stays in the locker room, but I was wrong," Cousins said. "But what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room." Cousins has had a tumultuous start to his third NBA season. "I messed up," he said. "I'm apologizing to all my teammates for it, for responding the way I did, and we'll move on from it. … I grow from all of my mistakes."
Man, when you can get an inefficient scorer who plays bad defense - you make that move ten times out of ten. Throw in the fact that he's already 2 for 2 with coach altercations and you laugh while you do it.
If Cousins ever became a Houston Rocket, it would seriously test my commitment to this team. I'd still be a fan in a token sense, but I don't know if I'd watch the games or be as excited about the team as I'd otherwise be. It would be too disgusting. It would be like when Tebow came to the Jets, and some Jets fans felt conflicted about it. Still a fan I guess, but ewwwww....this guy. This freaking guy.
Its crazy that potentially Cousins, Love, and Aldridge could all be in trade rumors from now till the trade deadline next year in 2014. Cousins seems to make the most sense for the Rocket beside maybe Love. I still think the Kings hold onto Cousins for another year, but just in case they decide to pull the trigger in February, here are a few deals that could make sense for all teams involved. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=cqpv8n6 or its possible Sacramento wants Chandler Parsons straight up for Cousins. Either way, I dont see the Rockets acquiring either of these three guys without giving up Parsons. That is unless they find a way to get another pick along the lines of the Toronto pick they had this Summer to dangle in trades. Im a huge Chandler Parsons fan, and think he's the glue that holds this team together, however if they want expedite the rebuilding process enough to say this team could contend in 2 to 3 years, this is a trade you have to do for either of these three guys.
The most logical thing for the Kings to do would be to hold onto Boogie Cousins and then trade him during his offer year to coincide with the team's move to another location. Fresh start, fresh location, new roster. It would make sense. The Maloofs are the cheapest owners in basketball and routinely flirt with the salary floor as it is. They're not going to want to lock up Cousins for the kind of money he (thinks he) is worth. They'll trade him to a team who will, and that's years off.
You are right here. I think fans here are just sort of dreaming a little bit. This worked out well with the Sonics moving Ray Allen, and letting Rashard Lewis walk the year before they sold the team & moved them to OKC. Before you sell a NBA franchise, you will likely see a big drop in payroll the year before. A big reason why Tom Benson bought the Hornets was because of the franchise valuation flux that happened after they flushed out a good majority of their payroll when the NBA owned the team in the final year. Why do you think Stern vetoed the Gasol trade??... It didn't have anything to do with the deal itself. It had to do with the franchise valuation going into a year where they needed to sell the team. With Sacramento, they can use Cousins in a year or two from now to not only dump his salary, but also other major contracts that they might be holding onto. This season, there isn't much motivation to move Cousins & other salary since its still going to be a few more years until either sell the team or they can move the team out of Sacramento IF they really are still planning on doing so.
I know the hope is that Cousins would have a change of attitude in his new scenery. And obviously the Rockets are a superior organization to the Kings. But he's already been suspended twice this year and benched by his own coach for conduct detrimental to the team once. It just isn't looking good for Cousins.
I think Harden could set Cousins straight. Maybe the King's team chemistry is **** and don't have a true leader. It's all about the chemistry
Who knows what this kid could become with McHale, Olajuwon and Dawson, helping him refine his post game. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VRjlGDGY4kQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> IMO, if a trade is a possibility, you give up anyone not named Harden, to get him. But then again, that's just my opinion.
