They can both tutor Yao at Fonde. Screw Westside.

Seriously, the duo would re-ENFORCE the lesson. Moses could begin the topic, Hakeem could demonstrate and expand. I'd love to see it. Team Yao could make a $$$-load shooting commericals of the sessions. Team Rockets could market on the passing torch thing. $ $ $! Bring in Ralph and Calvin and Clyde, too. Let Calvin and Clyde work a little with Steve. All the Jerseys in the rafters. Video the whole thing and money money money. PLus the team gets better. Ok fine. Doit!

I'd love to see some of them carry over from the summer as assistants to Rudy, really. He needs it, the team needs it, the organization needs it. Not trying would show control issues, pigheadedness, and shame. Then FIRE RUDY. But I'm all for giving it a chance, to get the best from the brightest TEAM ROCKETS has to offer.

In fact, NOW would be a good time to start. A quick press release, and notes that the scheduling is being worked out. Get the most out of your players, Les. Don't throw your money away. Maximize their talent, maximize their Rocket ties, maximize their return. Don't waste your resources. Make money, win it all.

Interesting article, and now that it,s public, there will be some pressure to make it happen. I guarantee you Mark Cuban would take advantage of this type of opportunity - see it every day with specialized coaches, tutors, even bringing in retired NBA refs to help the players. Mavs may have more coaches than players, but, hey, look at their record.

A dose of Mo is exactly what Yao needs:p

Both Moses and Hakeem need to tutor Yao at Fonde. Like Moses said in the article...

"Kid's got skills," said Malone. "Such great ability on top of all that 7-5 size. You can see he knows the game. What he needs to learn is the NBA game."

I couldn't agree more. I also agree that Stevie needs to get Yao more touches.

The other thing Moses needs to do, just like he did with Hakeem, is that after their practice sessions at Fonde, he needs to take Yao to Frenchy's and let him gorge down on some of the best fried chicken in Houston. Then he needs to take him to the weight room. Time for Yao to bulk up, Houston-style.

Now all we need is MoT to join MoM's little tutorial and learn some on how to grab some boards and be aggressive. I would kill for MoT to improve himself to be a Webber like player, the guy has that potential.

Let Moses teach Yao one on one.
Let Hakeem teach Eddie one on one.
Let Larry Smith teach Mo Taylor one on one.
Let Calvin Murphy teach Steve and Cat one on two.
And let Rudy teach Posey and Boki one on two.

With this kind of tutelage ninety minutes per day, day in and day out, the Rockets could be championship bound.

Okay, my momentary reverie has passed.

great article. hope it'll come true. as good as yao ming is, he seriously needs specialized training on positioning, rebounding, aggressiveness.
hope this will happen and sooner rather than later.

If the Rockets don't take advantage of having a Moses Malone teach Yao Ming then they are fools. This is EXACTLY the type of teaching Yao needs. Someone that Yao can respect and teach him about the "aggresive" side of basketball that Yao needs to bring out.

This is a great quote and it really applies to Yao so far in the NBA. This is the one thing that can propel Yao's game to the next level and Malone is the right guy for the job.

Kudos to Fran for writing this article and the Rockets are ON NOTICE now to hire this guy for some mentoring!

Get on it Rockets! Don't WASTE this opportunity!

He needs to be taught, but more importantly he needs to bang with someone everyday. Moses may not be the guy to bang with anymore. But he can teach hm. Olajuwon can't bang anymore. It would be great if Shaq could bang with him all summer. That would be the ideal situation. I've always felt that you learn by playing the best players everyday. That should be the focus. Maybe Yao can teach Shaq how to shoot FT.

    Keep Sampson away from Yao.....

Malone is the perfect tutor for him.

Yao only lacks the toughness that Mo could teach.

    Bring on the MO !!

I've posted this before, but Moses always said the biggest thing he taught Dream was how to demand the ball.

If Moses can still do anything, it is bang. I bet you Moses can still knock Yao to floor on regular basis.

The current coaching stuff of rox looks exactly like what Wuda had. (Wuda was a store owner, he's very short. Naturally, his store didn't hire anyone taller than him)

Isn't Yao going back to china in the offseason? I'm surprised nobody is mentioning this at all.

My head is spinning. What's with Fran Blinebury All THe Damn Sudden becoming some sort of scoop machine. Jeesh. Malone tutoring Yao? Yes, god, yes.

You know, of all the people I would like to meet in the world -- I think I would be most startstruck with Moses Malone. Neil Diamond a close second. But Moses is Moses is Moses. I have a good Moses story I'll tell when I have a second. I mean, he rules. RULES.
