It's Hakeem, the greatest Rocket of all time vs Shaq, the greatest Orlando Magic of all time.

For the people who are newer here, we call it Sweepsanity

One of my favorite series of all time. Dream would clown Shaq in the low post like 4 times straight, and young Shaq would retaliate with a power dunk on the other end, like that was equivalent to the scoring skill on display.

Like, that ain't gonna get it done, buddy. Still just 2 points.

The story going into the series was that Penny Hardaway was the huge advantage vs the Kenny Smith/Sam Cassell combo.

they underestimated the heart of a champion

thanks for the thread, it's refreshing to watch old Rockets games vs people wanting to watch old Knicks games for some reason.

    it's like we're Rockets fans!

Olajuwon is a beast! I saw the whole Spurs vs. Rockets series when D Rob got owned. But man, This guys game is so smooth and that footwork is untouchable..

Didn't Rockets have the same squad from the year before? 1995 championship year to 1996 year?

And a 32 year-old Clyde Drexler, who still averaged 21.5 PPG in the Finals.

no different squad. the clutch city one team had otis thorpe and vernon maxwell. a stronger defensive team, better 3 point shooting team.

95 was more of fast break team when they get drexler, moved horry to the 4 (not a post player) and mario to the 3.

The 96 team was basically the exact same squad that finished the 95 season.

Dream and Clyde were a year older, and they weren't quite as hungry, but the main difference was playoff matchup. We faced the Sonics, a team we simply couldn't beat. If the bracket had fallen differently in 94 and 95 and we faced Seattle we wouldn't have our titles. They played by far the best D on dream.

If somebody else had taken out Seattle we would have gone to the finals in 96, but we couldn't have beaten that bulls squad.

We should get Sam Cassell to be Assistant Coach of current Rockets, imagine how much he can teach both Lin and Harden, even Douglas.

He did play for McHale in Min and Flipper Sandra is fired in Washington anyways, heck, is he still on Washington's payroll?

So there was a low chance of them repeating the third time?
Akeem looked impressive in the game. But he seemed like he was letting shaq rebound. They also jacked up a lot of 3s.

The owner changed the beautiful classic uniforms the next year and put a hex on the Rockets forever.

Shaq was the leading scorer in the league and a big physical presence. Shaq would get his rebounds and dunks. The Rockets won because the whole team was clutch.

the real big shot Robert Horry was in that series. Kenny Smith, Sam Cassell was actually too much for them. We all know how Sam Cassell turned out, he was a baller.

Clyde Drexler's slashing abilities was still deadly.

The chemistry of the Rockets and the signs of destiny were real.

Game 1 Kenny Smith was the hero, Game 2 Sam Cassell was the hero.

    that year was special.
