It's hard for 7 footers to catch bounce passes aimed at the feet in traffic.

Come on dude, not everything is a LOF debate. That Greg Smith thread was a tad knee-jerky, but the dude has been playing well, thus the thread.

A similar thread was started that stated mook should start over 2pat, when he started playing well - it was another knee-jerk thread.

I definitely don't agree with the OP, but it's like does every thread needs some Lin debate/baiting in it? I like to think some are pure from that toxic Lin discussion (e.g. Greg Smith thread)

Can any of our players set a screen? Seriously.

I want him develop a post game but we can't even set a ****ing pick properly. The whole team I'm talking about.

That's actually not that great a number of picks set against a PG in a regular game. The crazy number is 2 against Calderon. How do you go away from setting picks deliberately against the one person who is especially bad at defending picks? I don't really get it.

As far as setting picks goes... none are much better than Asik. The space he creates for the drivers is amazing. You could drive a Mack truck in the lane.

As a roller, he has his good nights, and his bad one, but he's very, very raw. He's never going to be Karl Malone, but offensively he's going to get much better over time. If he can just do what he does on his "good nights" more consistently he will be one of the best P&R big men in the league.

    Asik is awesome

    Ask yourself this question

How good would Jeremy Lin be if he not only lived up to the expectations of him but surpassed those expectations when we signed him

Because so far Asik has easily lived up to his expectations and with his constant improvement he is surpassing them aswell.

Asik's inability to finish at the rim really hurts in close games. He doesn't protect the ball well.

On top of that, our guards have this nasty habit of throwing the ball at his feet.

This will improve but it's probably better to make sure the 4 playing next to him is a real offensive threat. Let's hope Dmo packs on some much needed pounds before next season.

He's not here to score points? Then why does everyone keep passing it to him for failed shot attempts, especially Lin. Seems to me coaches and his teammates think Asik = D12.

The thing is, Asik is being highlighted WAY too much in this offense. I think in part it's the fault of the coaches, but it's also the fault of Harden and Lin for trying to utilise him too much.

He was brought in to be a defensive anchor not an offensive threat. He's improved his offensive game but it is still a net negative, and we should try and marginalise his role.

Against the Lakers in both games he tried to post-up Howard on a couple of plays. I wouldn't fault anyone for that because it was only a few plays so it would be great for his development, but if we're trying to win games it's clearly an inefficient decision.

The problem the Rockets have is that we don't have a legitimate low-post threat. Patterson isn't a good compliment to Asik and without anyone capable of rolling and finishing in the interior, we're going to continue struggling.

I also think Greg Smith deserves a lot more minutes simply because he is far and away our best low-post scorer. His defense is impressive as well, outside of some silly fouls, but many of those are fair, given the limited minutes he plays.

Also is it just me or has Asik's defense seemed to have gotten slightly worst over the course of the season? In the first few games he was a monster, but recently he's seemed to be M.I.A.

wow the Asik hate on this thread is astounding. I didn't understand it at first until I saw these "if Tyson Chandler were on the Rockets, we'd never lose" and then the light went off in my head that its all about Lin! Lol.

Look guys, Asik was brought in for DEFENSE and REBOUNDING and he has delivered for the most part on both fronts. He has a raw offensive game that has to be developed and that is why they incorporate him into the offense somewhat. We are the 3rd highest scoring team in the NBA so its not like they are suffering for a lack of touches by Asik.

It's only 22 games into the season and he is still evolving. Yao had similar troubles finishing his rookie year (although he had way more offensive potential) and it takes time. He will continue to evolve and show that he can contribute offensively but it is unrealistic to expect him to average 18-20pts a game.

Also Greg Smith is a GREAT complement for the second team. His D & Rebounding isn't as good as Asik's but he can score. So let him SCORE with the second team and be more of an offensive focal point. Do you think Smith would score as much with the first team? He'd be the 4/5th option behind Harden, Lin, Parsons, etc...everyone needs to relax and let Asik grow into his game. The knee jerk threads are stupid, pointless, and dumb. And stoopid

Asik has been great. I'd love it if he had better hands, but then again, I wish Lin had a reliable outside shot and Harden wasn't turnover prone. He'll be fine. In fact, he's been an EXCELLENT pickup for the Rockets thus far with room to grow significantly.

You've got a point there. He's an NBA coach, and they're all idiots, of course.
