People complain about Patterson being "soft." But Patterson wasn't dominated by Special Ed Davis and missing out on defensive rotations leading to dunks. Is Patterson harder than people think or is Morris horribly softer than Softerson?
it's all in the shoulder's, papi. patterson's match up always feared those shoulders. it was the secret to his defense.
Yo, just a heads-up it's scape goat. I agree 2pat's defence did probably get unwarranted blame, but his defence isn't anything to write home about.
Morris has how many pro games? And he has been training to be a 3 since last year because he's undersized at the 4 which makes me wonder why he's subbing Pat.
This. The coach puts these players in these positions that don't work or aren't their natural position and the players get the blame. Patterson at center, scola at center, lee at pg, twill at pg, Morris at pf,.......the list goes on.
I think you fail to understand the whole Mchale system. Everything is Harden driven. Harden will have the ball in his hands and everybody got to space out behind the 3, except the screener. So having Ppat or Morris out there, it doesn't really matter if he is 3 or 4. They all become spot up shooters.
Morris's poor defense at times today had more to do with lack of experience at the position than it being an issue with his toughness. Mook's from Philly
Patterson is an above average defender. He's better at guarding bigs than Morris. Morris was trying to learn how to be a 3 all offseason. Considering his improvement, I'm sure he could learn how to box out and defend 4s if given the chance. Morris is a better rebounder, Pat's a better defender; neither can post up.
Pat is soft because Morris, in one game, went to the free throw line more times than Pat has all season.
Agreed.. Patterson isn't really threatening to opposing players defensively, and Morris is even less so (at least at the 4 spot). The number of dunks given up this game was unacceptable..
It's not the offense that puts the soft label on PatPat. Pat gets taken out of position easily. He has nothing of Chuck Hayes' grounded like a boulder positioning. He used to have it in the flashes he played in his first year, though. But regarding their difference on offense, Morris, unlike Pat, actually can make his own shots. He's got a lot of tools actually - stop and shoot, turn around, way better lay-ups. It's honestly a wonder how McHale isn't giving him any plays yet. But, like I said, it's a mystery how Morris is being played at the 4. It's not like they're treating him as a tweener where he plays 3 some of the time. He never gets to play with Pat and Omer/Greg. So, he's really playing as a 4. Now, that he's undersized there has been a point made so many times. Morris, on draft day, said he's transitioning to the 3 and the coaching staff has said they're training him to be a 3. So, I honestly don't know what happened here.
