I would like everyone's input on who has a greater impact on the success of the team.

Obviously, Shane played the 3rd option behind Yao and McGrady but was not a go to guy but more of a glue guy. He molded himself into a defensive specialist and hung out on the permiter but no one really stopped Battier from being a scorer but Battier. He had the ability just didn't apply himself. We thought losing him, we wouldn't be able to find another wing who could defend, hit the 3 and be a leader on the court in the same way but I'm starting to think that we may have upgraded here.

Parsons obviously has a much larger role in the offense and seems willing to take on any challenge on both sides of the court from defending Kobe to taking it on Pierce without fear. He obviously has not reached his full potential yet so what are your thoughts? How does Parsons rank vs. Battier? Is it too early to tell or is it clear to you who is/will be the better all around player?

Parsons is better now than Battier was when he left.

I have been comparing these two in my mind for some time.
Both are smart glue players with great defensive games.

Battier is more reliable, and apparently can be a better overall leader. Coaches and teammates can totally trust him. His ability off the court is even more priceless. Basically, if you listen to Shane, you will have confidence in our entire team.

Parsons is not at the Battier level yet. His performance is more random. But he can make more energy plays at the offensive end. He can make girls blush too!

Parsons is just a more complete player, and he's still improving. I like Battier, but Parsons can have a much better career.

Shane's BBIQ is higher than Parsons which has allowed him to flourish without any tangible skills or athleticism; Shane just puts himself in the right positions to succeed. Parsons is better at everything else and I believe, while a smart player, can learn the game and challenge Battier as one of the smartest players in the league.

Kobe has already given props to Parsons. Kobe has only publicly given props to a handful of defensive players (Raja, World Peace, Battier, Barnes)

??? I found the opposite. Shane made the team really complacent with losing. Nobody could just pour out their frustration because Shane just put in a culture that beat everybody to behave themselves like professionals.

Different players. Hard to compare. Obviously, I'd rather have Parsons, as I think his skillset is rarer. But it would be awesome to have a defensive "QB" for this team to teach all our youngsters. Parsons may be a great iso-defender, he's not the game manager Battier is.

As far as stats go, it's obvious, but there's no way Parsons has accumulated the amount of basketball knowledge, intel, and respect Battier had when he was here.

Parsons is the better overall player. He just does more for the team. Battier in his prime was probably a better man-to-man defender, but Parsons is still young. Parsons potential is still high and he's already doing a lot of great things.

Well battier, in his prime, is obviously the better defensive player. Parsons D is very solid, but shanes D is on another level, when he was quick enough to defend at top level. Both of them are great reboundes for a wing, both good passing ability, parsons may be slighty better in both of those though, well see as he develops his game. Offense, parsons wins here, even though those clutch 3's by shane where pretty insane, but parsons has a good jumper is able to hit the 3 and has good ability taking it to the basket - aka just a good allround offensive game.

Parsons right now is equivalent to Battier on the defensive end. In every other respect his game is better right now than Battier's. 15/9/8 against the Celtics while holding Pierce to 5-18? You just have to be kidding me. In another few years Parsons could be a triple double threat every night. Now if we could just have a Parsons clone, 30 pounds heavier, to play the PF.

I think that Parsons' offensive is obviously on different level than Shane's. The dribbling, passing, and attacking off the screen was not something we ever saw President Shane do really. However, defensively, Shane's team defense is something else man. I think one word sums it up and its CHARGES! Him and Chuckwagon were the masters of that (even Lowry and Scola got involved), but now it is pretty rare that we rotate quick enough and are smart enough to take the charge as a team and Chandler personally too. With that said, Chandler can be a glue guy on a championship team, of that I am certain.

shane was one of the best wing defenders of his time. kobe said it himself that shane was the toughest for him to score on.

    parsons obviously the better scorer

Parsons is a better overall player than battier...battier in his prime was the better defender but Parsons overall game makes him more complete and dangerous basketball player, plus he is 6ft10 and battier is only 6ft8...ill take parsons anyday

btw...parsons still havent hit his ceiling yet
