It's amazing how smooth Hakeem still looks, and his footwork makes Carmelo look like a stiff. Hakeem @ 50+ still executes his moves faster than a sub 30 small forward, while doing it cleaner too. Carmelo should actually get more out of Hakeem's tutelage than most of his recent pupils since Melo does most of his damage in the paint and mid-range, while still coordinated enough to put the ball on the floor and strong enough to finish with contact.

To all you basketball purists, from min 5:30 to about 6:00 I'm watching the move that Melo makes, isn't that considered a travel? He establishes his left foot as his pivot foot by jab stepping with his right, and then before dribbling, he oversteps to his right with his pivot foot (left foot). Isn't that a travel? Then again, in the NBA traveling is rarely called. Someone please enlighten me.

All he needs to do is lose 15 lbs of fat and he will be at his full potential

Not travel. He bounces the ball before the pivot foot plants again. You can LIFT your pivot foot; you just can re-plant it before your dribble.

I see the dribble land before the left foot does.

Its amazing to see Olajuwon do the pivot vs Carmelo...he doesnt know how to pivot...i think after a while, Hakeem gave up and kept on saying ok good, but in reality...he wasnt really doing the move...it was the jab step, dribble and pivot away and finish with the jumper

On a side not...i dont think carmelo can move with his short restricting his lateral movement...lol

    I wish i could frame Dream's spin...it's beautiful.

As for the session...the problem with a lot of these guys is lack of hip mobility. They are stiff at the hips and can't pivot/turn correctly. Instead of turning/rotating their leg outward on the turn, they are reaching back with it. The result is still a spin move, but with a little hitch, not as smooth as Dream's.

See the second screen shot for both, Dream's right leg is already rotating out (knee cap almost facing us) and his foot is already firmly on the ground, while Melo's leg is still turned inward (knee cap facing forward) and his foot in the air.

50 year old Dream makes elite SF Carmelo look like a stiff.

This...gosh his moves are sooooooo fluid...he could seriously lace up and still whoop every center in the league right now... in the prime age of 50

Why doesn't Houston just hire Olajuwon to train our players? Maybe train T JOnes? or something.
