I'm pretty sure it is fictional. I mean was Blinebury sitting right there while Francis said things who would never say to the media? And yeah, it's funny how Steve brought up every issue we have here.

    Thank you, Oscar!

How many times does Steve start out a game 1-for-6? Does he ever think about taking the ball out of his own hands? N-o-o-o-o.
    How about his buddy Cuttino?

I like what Oscar said about involving the weakest player. Those Buck teams had Jabbar, Dandridge, McGlocklin, Oscar, FLynn Robinson, and Bobby Smith, I believe. They all could/would score, but they weren't all great players. In fact, the Rockets eventually acquired Bobby Smith (not sure about tht name; he was a 6-4 left-handed wingman).

Those two things really bothered you? I had no idea how much Oscar made and I never really thought of how tall Oscar was. I never saw him play so I had no clue.

    I think that's just nitpicking.

    HP,

You are not alone. This conversation sounds like fairy tale to me. Too perfect to be true. It's not Oscar's answers. They sound real. It's Francis' questions. How could he ask all the questions we are talking about him here? Unless he reads this board. (Blinebury surely reads here.) Also, how did Blinebury hear this conversation? Did he set it up?

its too bad franchise won't put in to practice what O said to him. i would love it if he actually would. after watching some of the interviews from the weekend with steve, you can see right on his face and in the tone of his voice that he is jealous of yao. he said he wasn't even going to get yao involved in the all-star game because he already dominates the rockets offense. huh? since when did dominate refer to taking 8 shots a game? francis made it clear that he wants to score more this year in the game. it is so obvious that he dislikes not being the center of attention. at least the big O is trying to knock some sense into him.

    Easy,

Wouldn't a fabricated conversation, without disclosure, border on being libelous?? I hope the conversation really happened, but sometimes Stevie is HARD OF LISTENING:rolleyes:

Not trying to defend Francis or anything, he also said in another interview that he wants to get his 'Rook' (Yao) the All-Star MVP by looking out for him. Maybe he just can't make up his mind

    -G'day-

To be honest, when I first read this article I thought it was fake. I have no doubt Big O would always give the right answers being the best all round player and playing with Kareem and all. What I had doubt about was Steve's questions and his meek answers, always yes this and yes that. Doesn't sound like the Steve I know. I didn't realize it was in the Chronical at first and had to scroll back up to where it was published or is it just a story. Now that's cause for alarm. However, I'm hoping journalistic integrity holds together on this one cuz if it actually happened, that's great news.

That's some serious allegations that you are laying forth. You need to produce some reference sources or you should have an ounce of responsibility and delete your post.

    Wow what a great story!

It's different for Steve to take advice from talk shows, NBA announcers or even his coach but to hear it from one (if not the best) PG of all-time in a one-on-one setting has got to make him think.

I really hope Stevie begins to develop his game and progresses. If Stevie ever "gets it" then we suddently could become a Dynasty franchise for a long while.

But thnk you for posting the story!

I hope this conversation is true.Francis can learn a lot from the Big O. He should try to setup Yao quickly before the double teams and fronting happens but Yao also needs to recognize that and place himself in better position but there is no doubt that we need to involve him consistantly even when he isn't scoring.
Francis should look for the open man with the highest percentage chance to score when he can't get the ball to Yao. I would like to see Griffin down more low so he can hit his turnaround jumpers when Yao is not open and also to give the ball to Posey so he can get to the line quickly then move out to Mobley for his shots.
Both Francis and Mobley need to realize that they will get the ball back from Yao and get easier chances to score from good ball movement.

I know. Maybe Blinebury is being sarcastic here? Maybe he comes here too often and catches on the sarcastic style on this board, forgetting that he is actually writing for a credible newspaper? :D

I think that Steve did talk to Oscar because in the Chronicle they have a picture of Steve and Oscar sitting together in a room. I think we need to bring in an assistant coach who can teach our guard how to make the right pass as well as how to throw an entry pass to the post. I don't think we have anybody on our staff who have the expertise on plaing point guard to show Steve the rope. The fact that Steve seeking advice telling us that we need someone to show Steve how to play point guard the right way. I would vote for getting john Lucas or Oscar R.(if he is interested in coaching) for our guard and a big man coach like Jabbar or Sampson for Yao. By watching them play it's so obvious that they need help on how to play their position correctly. Steve didn't play point guard that much before he come to the Rockets. So with the right instruction who say he wouldn't be another Gary Payton.

I started laughing out loud when I read this article. It struck me as a phony conversation not even a third of the way through, a Fran Blinebury as the Big O sort of conversation.

I am not nitpicking here. I brought those two things up merely to point out things that you'd think for sure he'd know, as an example of why I think this is part of a growing trend of some writers to write the perfect conversation in a fictional way. I also don't think it is wrong for Fran to do so.

I just want to know who thinks this is one of the fictional conversations, and can we find out for sure.

I love how he makes Steve accountable. Nobody on this team is accountable for anything right now.

This is exactly what I've been saying all year. You can tell in how Yao shoots that he's lacking in confidence - as though he feels each miss dramatically lessens the chance he'll see the ball again for 5 minutes

Frankly I'm skeptical that Fran would even know some of that stuff, like taping up the ankles. Even though he covers sports, Fran's never struck me as the type who would understand stuff on that level ;)

And I do think it's wrong to put words in someone's mouth, even if it's part of an opinion column and even if you mean it to be complimentary. Maybe if Oscar was *dead*, that would be one thing but he's not. I'm going to say that I think it's a legit conversation and that if it sounds fabricated at all, it's probably due to the kind of paraphrasing and streamlining of the language that goes on when conversations or interviews are printed in the media.
