crossover...that's the DUMBEST TRADE I'VE EVER HEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE NEVER WANTED TO BE GrEgoNoMiCs more in my life. No offense....I'm just saying. ls
From today's ESPN Insider: Speaking of the Clippers, don't expect Elton Brand to be a big player in the free agent market this summer. Brand's camp, led by agent David Falk, is concerned the Clippers do intend to give Brand a big offer. The problem is, Falk feels they won't give any money to anyone else. The last thing Brand wants is to be stuck in a long-term deal with a team with no hope of competing for a championship. Falk is going to insist that owner Donald Sterling re-sign several other players first. If that doesn't happen, Brand won't risk signing an offer sheet from another team. If the Clippers' matched (like the Cavs did with Ricky Davis in Cleveland) he'd be stuck. Instead, expect Brand to sign the team's one-year tender (just like Michael Olowokandi did last summer) and become an unrestricted free agent in 2004.
Choujie, did you not see that I posted that exact same thing from ESPN Insider not 6 posts above yours???? Chris
Can we put a rest to this topic now? It's pretty clear that the Rockets are NOT going to get Elton Brand. Let's focus on viable options to improve the team and/or deals in the works. This is just ultra-frustrating because no matter how much we want to try to will this trade, I don't think it's going to happen.
Can we trade for Brand in the offseason before he picks up his option for a final year? Or after? Damn, Brand would be such a brilliant addition. Is it illegal for players to talk to other players about coming to Houston? Can Francis talk to Brand?
Rice, Cato, and Eddie for Brand and Odom sounds good to me. We can throw in someone else too like Rice, Cato, Eddie, and Boki for Brand, Odom and Rooks. I think I want Brand on this team banging the boards.
Heck, the Rockets getting Tim Duncan or Rashard Lewis or Jermaine O'Neal or Rasheed Wallace are all possibilities, however remote. But as much sense as it makes to most of us here for Les, CD, and Rudy to trade for Elton Brand, us talking about it won't turn that possibility into reality. This thread started long ago with two brief mentions of the idea in some random radio broadcasts. There has been nothing since then to shore up the trade talk. It's even been asked of several "experts" who have routinely dismissed it. Seriously, can you point to one single published authority that even contemplates this move? ESPN is even talking about the Rockets' purported interest in Austin Croshere, but not a word about Brand. Where's your source? Otherwise, talking about this is like debating any number of good ideas -- in the end, they don't add up to much more than ideas.
If Brand gets a one year deal from the Clips this offseason I think that the most likely time for him to get traded would be at the trade deadline this time next year. I'll put on my swami towel and throw out a few predictions. 1. Clipps will try to sign Brand to a long term deal this offseason. 2. Brand signs the one year deal because everyone else leaves the Clips to go to other teams. 3. Rockets miss playoffs this season and Rudy is going into next year on the bubble with Les saying privately that it's either the playoffs or you're gone. 4. Clipps come out next year just like this season with a terrible record at the break and it's obvious that Brand is outta here at seasons end. 5. Rockets are hanging around the 7th and 8th playoff seed but it's obvious that something is still missing. FIRE RUDY T!!!! has reached 1000 posts. It's time to make a move. 6. Rockets trade away any player with the exception of Ming and Francis to get Brand. 7. Rockets win the championship in 03/04. We party on the Richmond strip. Everyone on cc.net gets laid.
Two problems: 1. I don't want to wait that long to get Brand. 2. My wife doesn't really like pro basketball-- even Rocketball. Help!!
topfive,I meant that Wilcox has more college experience than Griffin. I feel that Wilcox could have been more productive if he had been on another team instead of being on the Clippers with Brand being there.
Sane, There is a team out there that is desperate for some front line help & has a boat load of #1 picks to give up, & that team is Orlando. They could offer Mike Miller/fill-ins/multiple #1 picks for Brand. If, as Topfive states, Sterling is looking to load up on #1 picks, then Orlando would seem to be a lock for acquiring him.
True, Brand is putting up more points/rebounds. But in reality, Yao is better then Brand. Do you realize how many times Yao makes opposing players alter their shots? That is a huge statistic that isn't accounted for but should be. Just thinking about shooting over a 7 ft 6 player makes opposing players have to change their shot selection. Countless times I've seen someone driving to basket only to have to kick it out or dribble back out casue of Yao. There really is no comparison between Brand and Yao. I would take Yao any day.
Denver could just pursue Brand in the offseason without loosing there young talent. ie (Nene and Nik Tsk.)
I don't see Brand going to Denver, he wants to win at some point in his career, the Nugz are a ways from doing that. The clippers would be smarter trading him now, than letting him walk in FA. Unless Brand really wants to stay, which is unlikely.
Remember besides Denver, Spurs, Jazz and Miami all have the cap room to sign max deal FAs. So there are no shortage of suitors for Brand.
Sounds as clear as mud. In other words, you know nothing that proves this trade will not go down. Great, I'm glad you took the time to explain it.
Haha, great argument. Tell me, what's more important: proof that a trade will happen or proof that it won't? I'm pretty sure the burden lies on the trade speculators. You're just desperately trying to cling to any lingering possibilities for this trade.
