Fran needs to look in the mirror. He's written quite a few flowery descriptions of Steve Francis over the years. If Francis has an ego the size of a house, certainly Mr. Blinebury had a part in building it. Still, I completely agree with the article. Raven
Again, Blinebury right on with this article. It's good at least one of the writers speaks the truth and calls the team and it's coach out when the team is underachieving. I believe more and more, people are wanting drastic change with this team including getting rid of Rudy. Rudy has come under more critisism this year than ever before and it's with good reason. Rudy's really running out of excuses and I truly believe the last part of this season is do or die for Rudy. In other words, the Rox better make the playoffs or going into the new arena, a new coach will be in place.
Count me in as one of those that believe that this was a great article. As said above, he really hit the nail on the head with those comments. We can only hope that it gets back to the players and coach and they respond to this article the way the team responded to "Choke City" years ago. Chris
So Rudy is to blame for Steve and Cuttino's egos???? I guess he is also responsible for Yao being humble. I can understand blaming Rudy for lots of things (even if I don't agree), but anyone who thinks that Steve and Cuttino didn't have ego problems long before they became Rockets doesn't know much about human nature. All aboard for the Brineberry bandwagon ... the train is leaving the station ...
Don't give him too much credit. He gets alot of his ideas form this site. But, at least he knows where to go to get the ideas.
As frustrated as I have been with the Rockets, Blinebury is just annoying the hell out of me. He MIGHT have some good points, but he spends so much time ripping the Rockets and tearing into the Rockets and players that people just tune out any good he has to say and just get tired of him.
No he hasn't. The closest he came to saying something nice about Steve Francis is calling Canada a country of "Bubbas in Igloos" for their treatment of Francis when he played in Vancouver the first time. The fact is that he has pissed off the players and owner enough that he is no longer able to do investigative reporting (except for Hakeem) because he cannot get exclusive interviews. Notice once again how he is just recycling quotes from previous media pool interviews and adding *very obvious* spin to them. He "nailed it," because it is so easy to "nail it." Pay CBFC or Will or Space Ghost (who "nailed" the incredibly funny Fran mocking article here last year) to bash the Rockets, and they would make you actually feel more intelligent for reading their take. You wouldn't have to lower your intelligence by overlooking stupid metaphors:

Hamsters are more commonly known for running on wheels, Beasts of Burden run in circles.
Rising bad rashes don't normally "arise" in literature, they more commonly "appear" and "spread."
Does anyone use mileposts versus milestones
And lets not forge that reference to Gilligan's Island episodes, a nameless fat man on a treadmill, and a blonde TV fitness guru (all in the same article) makes you wonder about Fran's couch-potato problem. Is Fran like a pathetic pariah palpitating perspirations of pop culture onto paper while looking for fallen olestra products between his couch cushions. It seems that when you have to ask, you already now the answer.
Hey now, HP! Credit where credit is due my friend. I wrote the "Fran mocking article" of which you speak. You can look at it here: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?threadid=35377 I was wrong about his outlook on Ming (I guess he has to kiss butt to get somebody on the Rockets to talk to him ), but I did get his writing style down. On topic: Sadly I agree with Fran's last couple of articles, but they were still poorly written and haven't provided any new insights that hundreds of people on this BBS and dozens of other sportswriters haven't already discussed ad nauseum. LP- Still a Fran-hata
Launch Pad, My apologies. I was racking my brain trying to remember, and could only remember the author had a Rockets/NASA theme to their name. At least I remembered the article; that's consolation credit for ya, I hope. That was best post of the year last year, imo. I won't forget again. Glad you could pull the link.
Gotta agree with CBFC, Launchpad and HP: even if he were right, his writing still sucks. Besides that, Blinebury is just the journalistic version of a broken clock being right twice a day. He's always ripping on the Rockets. When the Rockets are up, everyone can see he's an idiot; when the Rockets are down everyone else starts ripping the Rockets too.
I'd have to say that is a very good article. Made me think of some things I hadn't thought of before about Rudy... He makes some good points, and I think makes a good argument for Rudy to get it together or move on.
