This is an article out of the NY Post

Trade for Gasol may be tall order

    By FRANK ISOLA
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

Add Memphis center Pau Gasol to a growing list of players who could be moved for the right price by the Feb.20 trading deadline.
The Knicks are one of several teams that has expressed interest in Gasol, who is averaging 18.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and shoots 51% from the field. The Grizzlies have a glut of big men and would trade the 7-foot Gasol if they can get a player of equal value in return.

Memphis president Jerry West is a fan of Latrell Sprewell, but Sprewell's contract would prevent Memphis from picking him up for Gasol. Also, the Grizzlies would have to get a center or power forward in return.

Kurt Thomas is a possibility, but a deal involving him would have to include multiple players.

What a nice combo Ming and Gasol would make.. two seven footers! We could only hope Griffin would become as good as Gasol..this may be a better option than Brand!

Griffin, Mobley, 2 first rounders for him and Knight.

    In a heartbeat.

And, trade was accepted, BTW. :)

I wouldn't care if we could get him somehow.

Wow. And people say Rocket fans are not patient enough with their young team. West seems ready the completely blow up that team.

    Seriously..like Clutch said..

Take our roster..mark out Francis and Ming..and say..choose any combination from here..with Mobley pre-circled!

    Ming 7-5
    Gasol 7-1

(twin towers would be back in effect)

Pau Gasol is a heck of a player, but there are glaring holes in his game. He does not play defense at all. When he scores 20 points, he usually gives up 30. I don't see Pau as a good fit on the Rockets. What we need is a physical PF who can play D and grab rebounds. Pau is not that type of a player.

I'm also surprised that West is trying to move him. You would think that Gasol is the franchise player for that team.

Mobley is like the Anti-Spree for the Nba. Mobley has no where near the defensive skills and "smarts" that Spree has. If West likes Spree, he should then automaticaly despise Mobley.

No offense to Mobley of course.

...that sentence seems to give me the impression that West wouldn't take Griffin...

Geez, 5,000,000 "we need a true point guard" posts, and suddenly everybody wants Pau Gasol

Gasol is available for a team that is willing to part with a whale of talent AND take their bad contracts off of their hands. We're going to be strapped by the cap anyway, but there's little chance that we'd take on J. Williams (give me a break), the other guy's contract AND in the process lose Griffin and maybe Mobley. Can you say luxury tax boys and girls.

Gasol is one big plus, but in my world, one big plus does not equal four minuses, or for those mathematically inclined, presented as an equation:

    + =/= - - - -

If we had Cuban as an owner, I'm sure we'd be looking at it (Geez I hate the Mavs...well that is to say I'm jealous of their owner's $$$$)

i dont think we need another player who will demand a max contract.

both brand and pau will want the max and we cant pay it. we will already have steve and yao (in a couple of years).

lets not even bring up the chemistry problems it would create. our team cant even decide who should be our first option with only 2 possible choices. and one of them is 7'5".

we need a tough PF like brian grant. he doesnt want to shoot the ball, he goes after every rebound, and best of all, he pushes people around.

the heat want to get rid of his fat contract. a package of Tmo (young with upside) and rice (contract ends at the end of next year) with a future second rounder may be enough to steal him away.

    I don't believe the article.

    1. This is the NY Post. They don't have a sterling reputation for accuracy in reporting.

    2. Any player would be traded "for the right price." So, what are they actually saying here?

    3. The article alleges that the Grizzlies want to trade Pau because they have a glut of big men. But, if they do trade him, they need to get a center or a power forward in return. Huh? You don't relieve a glut by trading one guy for another guy who plays the same position.

I agree, the Rox need a banger at 4, who can hit a 10 to 15 footer from time to time.

For all the reasons that Elton Brand would be a fantastic addition to the Rockets, Pau Gasol would be a terrible one. It won't happen because it shouldn't happen. Two soft guys on the front line won't cut it in the West with dominant and physical guys like TD, Rasheed, Garnett, Stoudemire, Webber, and Malone. Heck, Pau Gasol makes Dirk Nowitzski look like Shaq.

    GASOL AND BRAND BOTH?!?!?! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Okay anyways. Gasol and Gooden are both very good players. BUT MAN...Gasol is a wuss! He is even worse than MO TAYLOR at defense. He is not aggressive enough. But his offense is good...

Brevin Knight is.....OK...not any better than OK.

And I wouldn't give up that much for him and Knight. I would give them JUST ONE FIRST ROUNDER.

    Never gonna happen.

I would rather have Elton Brand.

I am with ya. What we going to play Pau as? PF probably. He is not a rebounder, not a good defender, he is a heck of scorer. Do we want Ming to support him? We need brand, horry type of PF in this team. Pau is not going to make this championship caliber team, too much risk.
