there it goes the 1st sniffing the atmosphere for asik sucks thread. guys, u better build urselves ready for those kinda games. this guy is inconsistent in offense. but will only get better. what he has shown is not even a warm up. he used to shoot the ball decent back in turkey when he didn't have that body, didn't wrecked his hand with all those dumbbells.
Live in Chicago and have seen virtually all of his games. Your point about funneling players at him in Chicago is true... also in Chicago they were a defense first team, they spaced and communicated far better than the Rockets do.. Last Omer hustled more as a Bull because he only got 15 minutes a night. Having said that he has done far better as a Rocket than I expected and has been a good signing. He is still one of the best defensive centers in the NBA and although he is not blocking shots, I promise you, the Rockets defense would be horrid without him..
You are correct, the Rockets communication is terrible.... You would think they were a bunch of young guys that haven't played together much... Ohh wait..
It's the perimeter defense, It is just atrocious. Harden and Lin are just horrible especially one on one situations. When Asik goes to stop the guard penetration or contest the shot there is absolutely no weak side help or rebounding. I think he's doing his job, everyone else has to step up.
Asik is asked to do a great deal in a system that's not designed to be a defensive juggernaut. Combine that with a young team learning how to play NBA level defense with each other, and we're going to see this happen. Now if we are seeing the same issues in February 2014, then I might be asking if Asik is overrated. Right now we're getting way more than we expected on the offensive end (dude isn't a complete stiff) and about what we expected on the defensive end (rebounding machine, decent to good interior presence).
Eh, I expected him to make a Lin/Harden/Patterson squad about average defensively, especially as Parsons has shifted some focus to his offense. It's not Dwight or KG-tier, but it's pretty damn good.
I saw some nice hook shots from him against Dwight. He is so close in mastering that skill but I doubt somebody else notices it. Big man game is dying and forgotten.
why does everyone start a thread based off one game.. we win tonight and it's back to "asik is a dominant inside presence" "Harden is unstoppable" then if we lose same old everyone sucks threads..
The Rockets isn't playing defense as a team. The switching man man is always late, and the 3rd switch is no where to be found. So, they are particular weak against pick and roll team like Spurs. besides, there are times when the Rox play zone defense, but the guards seem not to know the bigs well enough... Another reason the rox is struggling is that the roster is young, and they are inexperienced. For example, Tony is a guard who loves to drive to the basket when the opp guard not keeping an eye on him. Last night when Lin was checking the PnR position, the other second Tony always drove to the basket and drew two free throws. Turnover. Yes. High pacing. No. High pacing will likely drives up the scoreboard, but not the opp score per possession. And, I don't think in a high pacing team will develop the roster better than a half court team.
Dude was barely in the game, 20 minutes. Something is either wrong with him or he is in the coaches dog house because it seems like they are willing to give minutes to either Patterson, Smith or Aldrich at the 5 more then let Asik. And he still has the second most rebounds for the team of the night.
Oemer is not used to playing 30+ minutes. He is clearly fatigued...a decent veteran backup like Camby would be good now
^He's not fatigued. McHale just likes playing Patterson at the 5. We saw the same thing last year when we had Dalembert and Camby, yet finished (and lost) games with Scola and Patterson manning the 4/5 and continuously getting scored on.
