So you'd be willing to personally murder a US citizen if it meant killing Bin Laden but you'd oppose "torturing" a fellow terrorist if it meant the same?
Sure, if I was in a weird science fiction prisoners dilemma scenario where I had to open a door or push a button to have somebody die (or personally murder somebody in the future by means of time travel, I guess), and have an otherwise unrelated event occur, I'd definitely take into account the costs and benefits of each action before opening the door or pushing the button or going through the time portal, gun in hand. Why do you think it's inconsistent with the thesis torture is illegal and shouldn't be used? Is this "illogically link unrelated things in a great big weird chain!" day? I can send a terminator robot into the future to kill Stevens so that bin Laden may die (why I must do so is unclear) while opposing torture in the present without being called a hypocrite.
