The coach joins Rich and Charlie from Ann Arbor Michigan. Lots of talk about Steve Francis. Lots of discussion about the last couple of days. Well worth the listen. 25MB, 55 minutes.

Incidentally, someone should tell Charlie Palilo the deli he recommends is "Zingermans" :)

Pretty obvious Rudy doesn't consider Francis the problem.

Interesting mention from Palillo that Kidd and Bryant are in the top 5 in most turnovers in the NBA with Francis. That I didn't know.

Also interesting that he mentions how EVERYONE needs to be on the same page to win, not just Steve.

Rudy is always a positive guy and he needs to be. No matter what happens, any coach with an ounce of professionalism should never single out individual players publicly.

I think Rudy knows what the problems are. I just have my doubts whether Rudy can make the proper adjustments to fix them.

Which ClutchCity.net poster was the first caller? Total dead giveaway. "Coach, would you trade Eddie Griffin and Steve Francis for Elton Brand and Andre Miller?"

LOL .... poor Rudy. I wonder how many times he gets this type of question about whatever player. Like he could say something about it on the air ...

Man, did you think that too??? LOL! I love the last guy...he goes through his whole comment/question then, right at the end when he is about to hang up, he says REALLY FAST, "Oh, andifyoucouldgetBrand, thatwouldbegreat."

    Hilarious! :D

I Just finished listening to the show, and they obviously only let kiss ass, soft ball questions come through.

I would have asked Rudy if he thought he should resign if the Rox don't make the playoffs this year!!!

Also, cudo's to the one caller who brought up Cat's incessant ball hogging. And, to Rudy's credit, he did not dodge it. He actually said that Cat's shot selection has been discussed. What I want to know, is what the hell is being done about these problems beyond talking about them!!!

Why doesn't someone flat out ask if Rudy considers Yao the second option to Steve, or does he think it's Cat. That will tell us all virtually everything we need to know!!!

Rudy also jokingly mentioned E.G.'s poor shot selection and "itchy trigger finger". I still don't think he gets how angry the Rockets nation really is. And the no-nuts host of that show only serve to protect him from the people who want to take his head off!!!

Most promising quote: "Cuttino's shot selection is something that has been addressed. Keep working at it. He keeps working at it."

Yeah he did mention that about to's but i bet he didn't mention the asst vs to ratio. Check this out.

RNK NAME GP MPG AST APG TO TOPG AP48M AST/TO
    1 Gary Payton, SEA 47 40.8 428 9.1 118 2.5 10.7 3.63
    2 Jason Kidd, NJN 47 36.3 393 8.4 171 3.6 11.1 2.30
    3 S. Marbury, PHO 49 40.1 405 8.3 169 3.4 9.9 2.40
    4 John Stockton, UTH 49 28.1 379 7.7 110 2.2 13.2 3.45
    5 J. Tinsley, IND 46 30.8 346 7.5 130 2.8 11.7 2.66
    6 J. Williams, MEM 43 31.3 319 7.4 91 2.1 11.4 3.51
    7 Jason Terry, ATL 48 38.0 345 7.2 151 3.1 9.1 2.28
    8 Andre Miller, LAC 47 37.8 330 7.0 148 3.1 8.9 2.23
    9 Baron Davis, NOR 36 39.4 248 6.9 104 2.9 8.4 2.38
    10 Steve Nash, DAL 48 32.6 330 6.9 116 2.4 10.1 2.84
    11 Kobe Bryant, LAL 46 41.9 313 6.8 174 3.8 7.8 1.80
    12 Eric Snow, PHI 49 38.8 329 6.7 128 2.6 8.3 2.57
    13 G. Arenas, GSW 48 34.9 305 6.4 153 3.2 8.7 1.99
    14 Steve Francis, HOU 48 41.5 295 6.1 201 4.2 7.1 1.47
    15 Sam Cassell, MIL 44 34.0 266 6.0 112 2.5 8.5 2.38

Look at the asst vs to ratio. We want to talk about how francis was a sg in college, but looking on that list, Marbury,Terry,Arenas and even Cassell really didn't play pg in college, but out of the top 15, no one makes poorer decisions with the ball than Francis.I mean J "Turnover" Williams turn the ball over less and throws more asst than Francis. This makes no sense.

Callers called. Rudy Rudied. Which is to say he offered nothing but platitudes and pleasantries.

No on epushed hard questions for hard answers.

And Rudy did not start any trade rumors. Here's one -- Rudy T for Larry B.

I heard RT asked about Steve and he answered something like , "we had the same thing with Dream." "He struggled reading defenses early in his career" Once he started recognizing double teams and trusting his teammates, the team took the next step. Does this mean we have to wait 10 years before Steve learns to recognize teams collapsing on him and him running into a wall and making a bailout pass. He has four years in. If he were going to adjust to this he would have done so. He should not be running the offense. He focuses on going to the hole first. He needs to be at the 2 where WHEN HE GETS THE BALL, he creates for himself first and the team second. Not at the 1 where he should create for the team first. I know this has been said "ad nauseum" but it's time to make the change.

Also, I know that we can make a trade for a well rounded PF this year. There are too many for sale and now Gasol is in the mix. We have two big ment to trade, (three if you count EG), and Cat. We can get Brand or Gasol or Grant or Rahim or someone who can solidify the PF spot for us, now. That gives us two months to mesh and then a real shot for and in the playoffs. Make the trade, Rudy.

Actually, it did take Olajuwon 10 years. He was actually very similar to Francis in that respect. He used to take on double and triple teams and he was so good that he could. But, it never won them the big one until he learned to share the ball.

It's something people often forget about Hakeem, but it is the truth.

By the way, 610 does not screen callers for softball quesions. All they ask is your name, what part of town you are in and what the general topic of the question might be and, for shows specific to one sport, they might not even ask your topic.

It took Hakeem and his teammates buying into 'THE SYSTEM'. Rudy was impactful with changing the roles and spacing and getting his guy's attention 'back in the day'. (The same things he seems to fall short on now.)

Leeb, interesting post regarding the Ast to TO rankings. I think Charlie mentioned really quickly during the radio show that Steve ranks 39th among PGs in ast to to ratio. THIRTY NINTH.

I think the intro said it all:

"Good tough questions are fine but keep it cival or you are gone."

I guess they were expecting Rudy to get hammared.

I am with yoou on this 100%. Larry B would be a great fit for the Rocks. He'll say what he thinks (like he did to A.I. about the practice...),and hopfully He would tell Mobley to share the ball more...........
