It's good to hear your cousin is doing better.

Sadly, at work, we lost possibly the most incredible co-worker I've ever worked with yesterday to brain cancer. He was a DBA/programmer who was blind and worked from home - I only met him once. Every other "meeting" was via phone. He had photographic memory and basically memorized hundreds to thousands of lines of code before he lost his sight. He had a computer read the code back to him so he could continue editing it (mostly SQL stored procs) ... blind. Unreal. What makes it even more incredible is that the code wasn't rudimentary.

Eventually they found out it was a tumor/brain cancer which led to his blindness and he had multiple surgeries until he couldn't work anymore. Like I said, he just died yesterday - his code was the heart and backbone of our software. It's ungodly how incredible this guy was. No doubt he'll be missed.

Then I come home and find out a former co-worker who moved out of state died back in July of cancer. She was only 46.

    Cancer is a b****.

Ack, I'm sorry about your cousin's returned condition. Is there a Paypal account where people can throw some donations?

    wow, Dr of Dunk,
that's horrible. A long time ago a group friends from high school came up to float the river in San marcos. One of the dudes hit his head on a rock, they had to get him to the hospital. During the scan on his head, they found out he had a tumor. He would have no clue that he had brain cancer if it wasn't for that incident.

Cancer sucks, best wishes to Swoly's cousin.

Your cousin will be in my prayers Swoly.

A short story also for my brethren:

I work away from our family home. Because the home is pretty big, my family decided to rent the lower part. This is the story of the tenants.

I arrived at home for a long vacation on 30 October. I didn't know that one of the tenants had cancer. If I'm correct, the lymph nodes were affected so it spread rather quickly. She succumbed at the early age of 37. She had cancer by age 27 so it was a hard 10 year fight. The sad part here is that she left a 5 year old boy who doesn't yet fully comprehend what is going on. Also, the boy's dad (her husband) just had a heart attack. We could see that he isn't fully recovered.

She died on 31 October in the ambulance which fetched her from our home. I was surprised because I was present during that day and I did not hear any sirens or panicky people. It seems that they were ready for that day. Anyway, her body lies in a nearby chapel and we will visit her later. She will be cremated tomorrow.

    Cancer really sucks :(.

I don't think there is a single person here who hasn't been affected by cancer (friend or relative). Truly, it's a real b****.

Best wishes for your cousin. I hope they'll find a permanent cure to this.

    JUST AN UPDATE:

My cousin seems to be fading away. Lost all feeling on one side of her body, hasn't responded at all.

For the past month or so, she had been affected so much that she is struggling to a lifestyle you and I are comfortable doing. She was taken to the hospital this morning after she couldn't lift any limb.

I am on the way to MD anderson, just booked flights for my cousin's brothers and sister and mom from Laredo.

I never ask for people to do anything, but I will reserve that for NOW:

Send your good thoughts, prayers, vibes, all good stuff and nothing negative to my cousin and her family, the doctors, and anyone else who is suffering from this.

Don't take your good health for granted.
    GIVE to your favorite charity.
    Hug your family members.
Give without asking anything in return.
Love your family and your friends.

Swoly, sorry to hear that. Will be in my prayers. Lost my grandma to cancer recently, she was ready to go so that made it a bit easier. I hate reading these stories about young people succumbing to this disease. :-(

Well wishes to you and your cousin.

and not to make light of the situation (i think we could all use a little levity during a time like this), but when i introduced myself to your cousin and the rest of your family at the fundraiser it was funny how they all denied they were related to you.
