Two pages in and I'll be the first to say it: I don't hate it. The pelican is on the state flag; "Hornets" never grasped the attention of the local market; they have an owner dedicated to cultivating a Louisiana spirit around the team; Jazz is already taken. Honestly, what would you choose? At least the rumored name is better than Raptors (extinct), Lakers (no lakes in Los Angeles), Jazz (rimshot), Grizzlies (none of those in Memphis) or Magic (named after the company that dominates Orlando). Hopefully this will lead to New Orleans becoming a better basketball city.
That's the first thing i thought when i read that. **** THAT! Ruins my hope of the Rockets doing a red and gold uniform soon b/c it would probably be rejected by stern.."sorry basketball reasons"
The alternatives being proposed were so much more mesmerizing, though. Way better than the New Orleans [lame inoffensive animal name]. Voodoo, Krewe, and there were a few more.
They just...they sound like a D-League team. Home Depot Presents New Orleans Pelicans basketball, now at the Kenner Municipal Center just off exit 23. Stay to the right. Parking is free for groups of 4 or more.
Without sarcasm I love it. If they can make the logo/bird non cartoonish i think it could turn out to be really slick. The logo sets the tone for how good or terrible this is going to go.
From a recent logo design contest, this is the only one that said "Pelicans" and didn't look like butt: Note that these are NOT official logos. None of the logos have been released and licensing obtained yet, as far as I know.
