Jeff, I think you're marginalizing the issue of abortion relative to your core issues. There are things that some of us find despicable, but we'll sacrifice those opinions for a greater good. Then there are issues that you simply will not let go of....
agreed...i find it hard to compromise on that issue. i wouldn't vote in a nutcase...i probably wouldn't vote period. that would be really tough on me, so i hope the situation never comes up.
This is just an example of how scary and dangerous the big government conservative party has become. The constant taking of an argument and putting it on it's head, twisting it, and then saying with a straight face that you've proven your case. How utterly ridiculous.
I didn't see him speak today but, I'd probably vote for him, whatever ticket he's on. From what I know of the man, I think he'd make a hell of a president. BTW, Achebe, that sig of yours is killing me! LOL
where do you get from that quote that Pole says he's "proven his case" as you say? in fact, pole's last sentence says there will still be argument, but the idea of a black president and VP is strong weight on the side of the argument against AA. it certainly would be something AA opponents would use to argue against the policy's continuance. i don't see what he twisted...and i don't see him making absurd conclusory statements here at all.
I've seen enough Ari Fleischer and George Bush press conferences to judge that this party is big on games to pretend to have proven their case. Just in the last few weeks I've seen Fleischer lie through his teeth about the 10% rule in Texas and Bush himself lie about the motives behind this federal funding for church groups. Maybe you should watch some. The election of a black president and VP who were benefactors of affirmative action gives no weight to any argument against AA. That's ridiculous. In fact if a black president who wasn't the benefactor of affirmative action happened to be elected it would be no more an argument against AA than if the richest man in America happened to be black would argue that blacks aren't disproportionately poor.
Condi Rice has other ambitions...she wants to be the NFL commissioner...seriously. I laughed when my dad was telling me this but she seriously wants to be the NFL commissioner when she is out of politics and she is a huge football fan.
He is the only man in the current administration, or indeed on the political map right now, in whom I have any significant confidence.
you're right...i should really pay attention to the news and business of the administration more than i already do.
I agree with everyone that says that they would vote for him b/c I would too in a second. However, he supposedly had ample opportunity to run in 2000 and turned it down b/c his wife is afraid of him being assasinated. As a result, he says that he won't ever run for prez. Who knows though, things could change I guess.
Powell is the only guy I respect on the administration. If he was running, I would love for him to win.
