Nope . . . I am so disappointed. I was planning on taking my first day(s) off in a year and a half of working to go to New York, CT and RI to see the band during Spring Break. I'm still going to try to get tickets, but . . . damn, I mean, how can I get shut out of FOUR shows!! This sucks ass!! I mean, I've seen Tim Reynolds himself twice, I'm a loyal fan of the band and fate conspired to still shut me out. I guess I'll have to work a bit harder to get some tickets via the WH members, or perhaps I can buy anything that's left when the shows go on sale to the public, but man, this is a big excalmation point on an otherwise crummy day . . . not to mention the Rockets will probably lose and now my whole weekend sucks.

I guess you couldn't make it to the Purdue show?

Well, with the Rockets' loss, this has officially become the worst day of 2003 for me. I get shafted for 1,2,3,4 Dave and Tim shows, I grade my class' quizzes and they are so bad I can hardly contain my anger and frustration, the Rockets suffer the most embarassing loss of the past ten years, work has sucked, and all the etcetera has sucked also!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, the only shows I could possibly make it to are the ones I got stiffed for.

I wonder what happens if you drink a lava lamp . . . maybe it's time I found out . . .

    V,
Sorry to hear about the quiz. That's the 2nd worst feeling in the world, (grading that crap), next to watching a really slow web update of "Francis bad pass" as the Rocks lose to the Cavs.

You'd have a really hard time getting tickets. These are all fairly small venues and half of the tickets have already been claimed. After the DMB fan club got their share, the students at the schools get a share, leaving a very small amount left for the general public, many of whom will be jilted fan club members who weren't lucky enough to get tickets.

And, of course he's good. :)

Dave Matthews is awesome of course. Tim Reynolds is unfreaking believable!! Greatest guitar player I've ever seen. Truly spectacular.

Pick up Live at Luther College to hear what a Dave and Tim show sounds like. Or you can download some shows all over the net . . . If you can get tickets, you should definitely go. The show is quite a bit different than the full-band shows, but it's not different in a bad way. D+T is awesome!

It's more of a subdued setting, right Vengeance? I hope so because I don't think I'd be able to handle a full show after driving 14 hours and having to drive 14 hours after.

Also, I've got many offers for my Purdue tickets, but I'll wait until you give a final no before I entertain them.

Yeah, it's quite a bit different. While I've never been to a D+T show, I've heard about a dozen of them and heard enough to make it seem as if I've been. Oh, and MTV showed one as part of an MTV series. I forget what the series was called though . . . Storytellers. They showed Dave and Tim storytellers. Spectacular!

The crowd sits, D+T sit on stools on a stage. It's a small venue. Dave will do a lot more talking in between songs. Tell some stories, make fun of stuff, sometimes talk with the audience a bit. I'd bet if you yell out "Spotlight" he'll talk about how he hates that song.

Well, I wish I could swing the Purdue show, but there's no way. Technically, I could. I mean, I could fly there see the show, then fly back that night, but I don't think I want to rush things like that. I'm just going to have to hope I can get some tickets for those four shows in NY, CT, RI. Those shows are the only ones I could consider -- they are during Spring Break for us, so it worked out PERFECTLY from that perspective. But perhaps I just have to work a little harder now . . .

Tell you what...try to trade my Purdue tickets for one of those. I'll hold on to them for a couple of weeks. How about that?

    Vengeance, e-mail me at blake@corp.swirve.com

I've gotten around 100 e-mails or so about the tickets, but I'd rather you go than someone I don't know. Try and trade my Purdue tickets for a show you can go to. If you don't want to, let me know.

I'll probably get a swift kick to the balls but I still say DMB is the 2000's version of Hootie and The Blowfish...and I think Hootie and Company were overrated.

Now let me go find my jock cup.

Yeah, makes a whole lot of sense since they both hit the mainstream at the same time...and where's Hootie now? Were they one of the top touring acts of last year? Did they get nominated for a Grammy this year?

i'm not gonna give you a kick in the balls...but do you really believe that, or have you just read it somewhere? ever seen DMB live? ever heard their music past what's on the radio?

their music is diverse...the individuals who make up the band are immensely talented and well respected across different genres of music...and they've put together a group that is, at the least, different. a violin player thrown in with a sax player..thrown in with bass guitar, lead guitar, and possibly THE best drummer on the face of the planet.

ultimately, it's just music, and you don't have to like their music...but i don't see the hootie comparisons at all. i think those were only arrived at because people hadn't seen black and white people in a traditional rock group together in some time.

Their style just seems similar to me...based on what I've heard on the radio and occasional tv appearances... I call it "Frat Rock".

really? have you heard their newest album? there's no way you could characterize it as frat rock...certainly the music that you hear of theirs on the radio and tv are the more mainstream sounding songs they have...but that's so few songs in comparison to their body of work over the last 10 years or so.

you ought to borrow one of their cd's from someone and see if you still feel the same way about their music after hearing more of it..

certainly the song that was nominated for a grammy this year is not frat rock...not in the least.
