sorry if this hads been posted, after the conference of powell, i read the bbs and i saw alot of people who think that now it is decided that there will be a war. In europe the opinions are divided. Even in Holland the opinions of politicy are different. Germany, france,China, rusia. all said that they want the inspectors to show there conclusion.my question is: if the UN do not agree with a war should the USA still begin a war?
Putting in a comment to keep this one near the top. I think if it were posted prior, now is a good time to get a new pulse on the situation.
Yeah, it's probably time to get busy. I'm getting sick of hearing these Iraqi officials saying the same things that they've been saying for 12 years. They're lying, we know they're lying, and they're just trying to bog the process down as much as possible at this point. Let's get it over with.
We've already pissed off France and Germany. Is it really a good idea to piss off more of our allies?
To quote some guy on Hardball the other night. Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion, you're just leaving behind noisy baggage.
arkoe: A homocidal maniac with weapons of mass destruction stands poised to either take over the middle east (and much of the world's oil supply) as soon as he acquires nuclear weapons or give WMD to terrorists to use against the US and Western Europe. Most likely both. We intend to stop him before any of this can happen. Anyone who doesn't stand with us against such a mortal threat to both our physical well being and the global economy is either wussified to the nth degree or isn't much of an ally. If you can't see that by now, then I doubt that you ever will. The future promises to be trying for you.
Unfortunately I do see see it, as much as I don't want to. No one wants war, but you're right; they've been screwing around with us for well over a decade now, and it is time to do something.
I read an article on CNN's website of the Saudi's suggestion that the UN offer rewards and assurances to people inside the Iraqi gov't if they were to help in the assistance of ousting Saddam or provide helpful info. After all posturing by the Saudi gov't and how they've been deplicted and quite possibly in a true light. I'm optomistic that this can be achieved. Actually, I have a feeling that the Saudi idea was fueled with US help. Think about it. The US applies pressure by troop build up. The UN supports the Saudi idea (which possibly is coordinated with the U.S.) The Iraqi people within the gov't applies pressure on Saddam to give in and comply to the UN resolution, or possibly topple him - because they feel protected by UN and international support and assurances. Bush's objective is achieved with minor conflict. A few localized fights with the republican guard, but fought by the Iraqi opposition and aided by UN/US help. Bush comes out smelling like a friggin rose!!!! And the Saudi-American relationship heals itself.....almost. The Iraqi people dictate what type of government is imposed (probably with a slight suggestion from the US...lol) It could be a win/win situation....just with all this drama. Oh man, I would just love to see this scenario play out. Few, if any American lives lost. Minor Iraqi casualties if Saddam is ousted from whithin. And the Saudi's start to sway away from anti-America sentiment. Then move on to N. Korea....... (yipes)
I find it interesting that 24 hours after we offer "our most convincing evidence" that the poll sits at 19 yeas, and 19 nays we the people dont seem convinced. we sent our best PR guy. one of Americas most popular figures. the man that most people peg for a future president. the man we as americans trust (according to some polls conducted by magazines) why are we the people not sold on war?? the waters just seem more muddied than ever
Do you think this is an accurate representation of America's feelings? First of all, there is about a 3 to 1 liberal to conservative ratio in this BBS, thus I am not sure that this BBS necessarily is representative of the feelings locally or nationally. Possibly looking at a CNN or Gallup poll would be a better barometer.
What ratio would you say then RM? I look at any political thread since the elections in November, and typically see about 3 liberal to every conservative response.
I'd say it's no more than 2:1, maybe less than that. There was a thread about a month ago where Trader_Jorge was b****ing about some poster being banned, and I made a list of liberal and conservative posters that had pretty much the same number.
What is it that the countries that want us to let the inspections go on are waiting for before they are convinced that Iraq is a world-wide threat? If those countries arent convinced after Powell's speech, then nothing will ever convince them that war makes sense. To me, they either think we are lieing and are making all the evidence up or they believe us. As one of the people who is behind an attack on Iraq, I'm starting to get very confused.
when i posted a pol, about who voted bush and who would stil vote him and who didn't vote him, it was about even. 1:1
This is just off the top of my head. Some of these don't really fit into one group, though, and there are some on both sides that don't really participate in many political threads anyway. Liberal (22): Rocketman95 glynch Achebe B-Bob rimrocker Major Jeff Mrs. JB dimsie Elvis Costello RocketmanTex rimbaud Timing ZRB pgabriel heypartner (not on the war issue, though) BobFinn* Behad Oski2005 Vengeance rockHEAD gr8-1 Conservative (25): MadMax Refman Trader_Jorge bigtexxx NJ Rocket giddyup TheFreak BrianKagy (where did he go?)
