There has been numerous threads about the PROBLEMS of the Rox from Mobleys play, PFs, Steve and Yao. But I think the fundamental problem is that we lack a leader. Imagine if we had a player like Jordan or Magic on the court. If he saw Eddie chucking up 3 point air balls, he will be in HIS face and Eddie will obvious change. If he saw Mobley not moving the ball or Steve, they will both change. If Yao wasnt getting the ball, MJ will talk to everyone and the problem will be resolved. We dont have this kind of guy which all good teams have. You can see from last nights game that KG serves that role for the Wolves. But who do we have? Afterall, our veterans are Steve and Cat and many feel THEY need guidance from a leader...
How do you know Jackson is an excellent influence on SF? Just because he's a veteran point guard? I'd say that's a bit of a reach. What if they didn't get along? What if they hated each other? I'd rather see the Rox bring now-unemployed John Lucas in as an assistant. The reasons: * He's already got a history with the team. * He already coaches most of our guys in the off-season at Westside. * He's already got SF's respect -- SF looks up to Lucas. Plus, Lucas obviously likes the town, and he's probably got a home here, so we wouldn't have to pay him a huge salary. Frankly, I don't know what's keeping CD from doing this.
Cat loves and looks up to RT also, it doesn't stop him from making some questionable shot selections. If you really want a coach to get these guys into team ball mode, hiring a RT clone (ie players coach) won't do anything. Why not bring in a defensive minded coach who knows the value of a post game a la Jeff Van Gundy?
