Glass Mistress - Houston music WOW! That was my old band! I was the original Glass Mistress bass player (James toured with them). You have a cassette of those early days? I GOTTA get a copy o' dat! We have so little from that time. We've had several reunions. Gerry was in town just this weekend! Please give me a holla back, BobFinn!
Dang, Batman...wish I could help but I'm in Austin. I could burn you some stuff and send it. I have plenty of Sprawl, deSchmog, Pain Teens, The Mike Gunn, Crown Roast/Rig/Third Leg, and other old Houston stuff. P.S. I saw Pain Teens, Ed Hall and Crust last night at the Trance Syndicate reunion show at Emo's East (Austin) last night. GOOD TIMES! [Edit: Just realized this was an ancient thread. Sorry.]
You can find a couple from these guys on the Texas Funk compilation available for digital download here: http://www.discogs.com/Various-Texas-Funk/release/3414453 Man, I wore this cassette out BITD
Wow, reading this thread is bringing back some old memeories! I was around back then in a few bands, Buddha on the Moon and Coterie in the 90's. And now jam with Eddie Hawkins from Horseshoe from time to time. Another great local band back then was Clouded which had the Costello twins on drums and vocals.
what no Dresden 45, The Hates, Dropkick Chihuahuas, Los Skarnales, Latch Key Kids, 30 foot fall or Dynomutt?
Dropkick Chihuahuas never released any material. Which absolutely SUCKS since they were my favorite H-Town band in the late 90s/early 00s.
How about Reverend Horton Heat? What about the Backyard Epics? I haven't seen them since the 90's, I saw Mark at a mutual friend's funeral not long ago and he is still devoted to his music. Sprawl was a favorite. King of Parking is a great album. I'd think you'd have access to that, since that guy was a lead role in Bluefinger, eh? I think I have the CD somewhere. I knew the bassist from elevator up all through grade school, but were never great friends necessarily. Last I saw him was a gig at Rud'z and then also soon after at Fitzgeralds about 15 years ago. Deadhorse was always a favorite, I know that the guy who used to be in the band was also in your play, so I assume you'd have access to that. I will say I recently become acquainted with the 'newer' (post 94?) guitar player for Dead Horse. They still play gigs. Cool story, bro. Lost my deadhorse cassettes, and the wife made me throw away the black corduroy baseball hat long after I should have. I always liked Dive too. I saw Spunk once long ago at the same place Catastrophic Theatre was located, I think. They were a good show.
If you were the one that repped me for Dyn@mutt, that's freaking awesome you played with them. I still have their CD, iirc it's called "young scientists handbook" ripped it lossless/FLAC for backup copies . Punk Contest and Crunchtime are two of my favorite songs ever.
That was me, yes Buddha on the Moon were at Rice at the same the mighty Mutt and played with them many many times at Catul Hyuak and Emo's back in the 90's.
