Trade Glen Rice, Jason Collier, and someone else under the $2 million mark for the Sonics' Gary Payton. The Rockets need a veteran but one who can still play and the Rockets can get rid off some dead wood in the process i.e Collier.
Interesting idea... Sounds far fetched at first but since they are looking to rebuild, it may make sense if we throw in some young talent. Payton experience and leadership will definitely do wonders for us..
Exactly! Payton comes off the books this yr, but they might want to resign him. I'm sure the Sonics could and do have better trade options than that.
I would also like to trade Moochie, Collier, Terrence Morris, Tito Maddux, and Boki for Derrick Coleman- he could also bring veteran leadership like Payton can. Don't worry that Coleman has never won a championship. HE could be a stabilizing influence for the young players much like a cool - stable Gary Payton. These two could be the catalyst this team needs.Think of team photos with Payton and that pleasant smile. Coleman could do drug and alchohol counseling as well. OK --we withhold Boki from the trade. Throw in Joaquin Hawkins instead. Think of Derrick Coleman as a mentor for Eddie Griffin, and that even tempered Payton as a godfather to Francis....
???????? Do the sonics even have enough space for anything like that? Hello...money must be relatively equal, and the roster space is limited u know. And collier as trade bait? dont make me laugh....
CATO for SHAQ?!!! Hell no....that is definetly not fair to LA, why would they do that? COLLIER for SHAQ now that is a do able trade.
How about Rice, Mobley, Cato to Toronto Vince Carter to Seattle Payton and Hakeem to Houston (Sorry, don't know who makes what $.)
So much more that most of them got cut :rolleyes Only Cato is still around who was then the least known f the tradees. Cato is currently on around $6.5m. Payton costs around $12m. Rice $9m Collier $1.5m. $1.5m more is needed to make up the difference. Perhaps some rookies?
The point, vasecase, is that the Sonics need a reason to make that trade. And tying themselves to a couple of years with Rice makes zero sense when Payton's contract expires this year. ZERO sense. If the Rockets gave them Griffin, they might be able to rent Payton for the rest of the year.
I personally think Gary Payton is right where he needs to be. I do not want him as a Rocket. He is a cancer in the locker room. He helped George Karl right out of town. Payton has no rings, while the sonics were better than us every year during our best years. This guy is bad news. Rice's contract expires next year- the dumping of salary his contract would allow the team trading for him is bait. Do we really want an old soon to be wore out player with severe social skill problems???? No!! Carefully shop the Rice contract to someone wanting to dump salary. To match the Rice salary another team could trade us a utility type player with expiring baggage thrown in- much like the Portland trade only do not end up with muti year contracts we are stuck with. Carroll Dawson is under rated at a GM- he can accomplish this. The legacy of Glen Rice as a Houston Rocket will be his value as an expensive expiring contract- not his merit as a player.....
Don't y'all want a TRUE point guard? I thought you all hated Francis and wanted someone who could run the offense... Gary Payton is elite. BUT HELECK NO. I don't want him. That Seattle SuperSonic. He wants way too much money. I wouldn't pay him minimum wage (400k)!!!!!!!!!!! He would be a good veteran...but it doesn't seem like his team is doing well either. I don't want him. HECK NO.
the rockets should trade for brian grants and a defensive sg/sf like kirilinko. don't need payton, pg who's not a great shooter, since francis is similar type of pg. the rockets need defensive-minded players and rebounders.
