If they are that concerned about knee/leg/lower body injuries they should ban all artificial turf first.

^^^ Exactly this. I hate how cut blocking and zone blocking seemingly get lumped together, when in reality they are mutually exclusive. The Texans will be fine.

that may be, but the Texans do cut block a LOT regardless. Most teams do.

This is more about the Slauson hit to Cushing than the Texans OL.

3/4 of the league uses zone blocking with cuts so it will shake it up pretty good.

Poor RBs trying to block blitzing LBs can't go low either. I imagine QBs to get hit even more.

This will more than likely be shot down completely.

    Just a guess, but...

They're trying to make it like a flag football league. This isn't gonna pass.

Ignorance. True of only the old "astro-turf" systems used up until the late 90's.

Today's turf is safer than natural grass in most cases. The right system is more like real grass than real grass. It's safer in terms of cutting. It's safer in terms of preventing concussions and other fall related injuries.

RB's won't be able to block as effectively anymore which will lead to more qb hits. It won't pass.

If so, that's ridiculous. Slauson's hit had no business on the field because it was uninvolved with the play. He went after the back of Cushing's knee, away from the ball. If anything, that's what they should be vigilant about - dirty play.

that was a horrible diagram.... that was on a fake reverse so the back side receivers aren't coming across and cutting...

in our scheme there are lots of back side cuts by the receivers and tight ends and of course o-line men...

I'm concerned about this as a texans fan if they eliminate all blocking below the waist.

    Completely agree.

If I recall correctly, then James Casey also LOVES to cut block all the time. Especially on those stretch plays that we run.

I honestly don't know how this will pass though. QBs will definitely get hit more. Running backs will have a very hard time to stop the huge pass rushers without cut blocking.

Also, some of Fosters big runs are from our o-line cut blocking. He finds holes that are created by defenders falling on the ground.
