Did anyone read about the new NASCAAR/ Indy track they are going to build in Alvin. It was in the Chronicle today. It was interesting considering I haven't heard anything about it. It's gonna be called something like Houston Supe Speedway. It will be built on either 1200 or 2500 acres(can't remember), and will hold 150,000 people once final updates are finished. Will only hold like 75,00 at first. A golf course and hotel are expected to be built on the property too.
I don't know anything about the demographics, but people that are into golfing are into NASCAR? Interesting.
I like CART, but all the good CART drivers and CART Cars are going to IRL. I only like CART because it has three types of tracks: the boring ass oval, the road course, and the temporary street course. IRL runs the stupid Oval. After they build a 150,000 seat Neckcar track, we can have some kind of big concert festival, and have 500,000 people in it.
yea lets drive around in giant ovals all day. yee-haw. The real skill is in WRC world rally championship but if Nascar is what floats your boat...then more power to you.
I'm not really into nascaar, I just thought some of you might be. I could only tell you about five of the main drivers from it and that's all.
Is this the same plan that was attempted about 10-12 years ago? Someone wanted to build a track on the west side of League City (near Alvin), but the public voted it down. I don't recall much of the details, but the slogan, "Back the Track", was plastered all over town for awhile. Edit....this sounds different: New speedway to open near Houston by 2005 Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Construction on a proposed motor speedway south of Houston is expected to begin within two months, and the track could open for business by 2005, said Tom Floyd, chairman of Star State Investments, which is developing the facility. The $100 million, 1.2-mile oval is to be built on 2,800 acres in Brazoria County southeast of Houston and will be named the Houston Superspeedway. The complex will include a 75,000-seat grandstand and between 50 and 60 luxury suites. A proposed second phase will increase capacity to 150,000 permanent seats. "This is one of the largest TV markets in the nation," Floyd said. "We have the three major sports, but don't have the top spectator sport." The Houston area has not hosted a major motorsports event since October 2001 when the CART Series held a race on the streets on downtown Houston. The track hopes to host NASCAR and Indy Racing League events.
