What i find very surprising is that everyone seems to believe that if steve and cat throw the ball inside to yao than we won't loose. Expecting him to be able to as a rookie do the same type of things that Hakeem did is not reasonable. When Hakeem was in his first few years he has Sampson who got the ball a lot and they didn't give Hakeem the ball on every play like everyone seems to think they should do now with yao. If you do that than he will wear out very quickly. He is already wearing down without getting the ball on every play. Also the mid-90's rockets had 5 or so shooters to spread the floor which we don't have now. In 2 or 3 years mabye yao can get the ball a lot like Hakeem did but to ask him to do that as a rookie is just not reasonable and wouldn't work.
Ralph Sampson=Big man Francis/Mobley=Guards Western Conference=Big man oriented Do you see the relation...? We won't get anywhere if we are a backcourt-dominated team facing teams with elite PFs. While the Kings, Lakers, T-Wolves, Mavs, or anyone with a good big man are scoring easy buckets inside, you think we should counter with 20 ft jumpers off the dribble? That is the recipe for a 3 and out in the 1st round.
Have you been watching the last two games? Thursday night, Rudy was on Sports Radio taking a lot of heat and he was scorched about the way his team has been moving the ball. Friday night, they play inside out with Yao most the whole game. Today they did the same thing. You think they dominated the T-Wolves and Kings with luck? Wake up my man.
Just compare the last two games and the previous four losses. Still not convinced? Become a Bulls fan.
With the exception of Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas, the NBA will always be a big man's game. You don't win without getting your big man involve. In the words of Hakeem, "You have to respect the post"!
Yao will wear down more when the guards take long jumpers which causes Yao to just run up and down the court aimlessly.
Yao Ming over the last 5 games is putting up about 18 ppg, 11 rpg, 3 bpg and about 3 apg. Yeah, why would we want to get that guy the ball?
astrosrule:-The very problem has been with the Guards that think score first and pass last. At long last, it looks like the Coach is now getting them to make a reversal in the way they include their team mates. At least I can confirm partial success during the last two games. All this proves that the critics were RIGHT and all the negative posts, possibly may have helped!!
Don't worry, astrosrule. baseball season's around the corner so you can stop giving us your expertice on basketball. First of all, nobody in here expects Yao to be like Hakeem. Nobody wants Yao to shoot all the time. We've always said he should TOUCH the ball on most possesions. He can move the ball around with his size and court vision. Nobody ever expects us to win every games. Nobody can do that for any team. I think last two gams prove that Yao may not be Hakeem yet, but he totally changes that game when is involved more. He got off to a fast start and when they double teamed him, he went ahead and got himself 6 assists. you should read here more often before you post let alone start a thread.
the rockets, especially the guards are foolish to not pass yao the ball for the following reasons. yao ming is: 1. so unselfish that he'll pass the ball out to them for open jump shots 2. so big that he can easily score 20+ pts a game. in addition, he sets great picks for them to get open jump shots; however, they need to dump to him when he rolls to the basketball. that ways the defense won't just run at them. 3. a better player when he gets to touch the ball. with him more involved, he plays better D. he grabs more rebounds and blocks more shots which translate to more fastbreaks for guards to score.
