Martin had an excellent day returning kicks, he could have had 2 returns for TD's pretty easily if he didn't slip on a cut and avoided Anger's ankle tackle. Even though he broke free a couple times, he doesn't look terribly fast out in the open as opposed to other return men around the league.
Just a quick bump to share a bit of trivia. Currently Holliday is on pace for an undefeated season. Houston was 5-0 when they cut him. Denver picked him up and has gone 9-0 since. In addition, Holliday played one game for Houston last year which they won.
10 yard average on punt returns - Meh 35 yard average on kick off returns - Excellent Most yardage on the 105 return, skewed, makes it 24.7 if no 105 exists. Has learned to find "holes." Is that average for the rest of the league?
Also related, the very little I've seen of Ruud this year I actually like. Even in coverage compared to what we've been working with.
"meh"...yeah, he's top 10 in punt return average, so consider what "good" is first (also top 10 in kickoff avg) I don't care because I still don't trust his handle on the ball. But I think he is a solid returner in terms of finding the gaps and all
oh, and yes...pretty much all of the best returners have 1 or 2 long returns that skew their avg up. That's how the job goes. Take it away from all of them, and they'd all still be highly ranked
I am not nervous anymore when we have to field punts. With JJ and TH I was always nervous that it was going to end up in a turnover. Happy with current returner...just happy, but NOT NERVOUS.
