for those few expressing sympathy for White, remember this all started with him grumbling about playing time (which he later walked back)

As long as he earns his playing time what ****ing difference does it make what kind of special treatment he gets. He obviously needs it. He is also obvious a young dude so immaturity stacked on top of 2 that we know of mental disorders. Eddie Griffin is gone there are many others that are gone. All Royce is doing is saying he would rather quit the NBA than let that happen to him. He just went about it the wrong way. He is both immature and has known mental issues. He fully this works out and some time next year he can earn himself some play time.

If he has kids and their well being is truly his #1 priority he will not give up basketball. Sorry to say but he will notbe able to be as successful doing anything else.

I feel that Royce will be used as a trade sweetener

Drafting him was a bad idea. Sure he has potential but it's not worth the freak show he is creating. He talks too much about nothing. Is very immature about this whole thing. There is a lot of things that I'll give players passes on but the public teenage angst on twitter towards the rockets kills me.

If they really think his talent/potential is worth it, I suppose the Rockets need to just treat this guy with kid gloves and provide him the extra special attention he's demanding.

Personally, I think this will be a waste of time. He doesn't know how to deal with adversity without having a breakdown, it seems, so how's he going to make it in a high-stress environment? What happens when the coach needs to correct his mistakes in the film room? What happens when fans in an opposing arena start to heckle him? How does he react when he experiences his first shooting slump and the playoffs are around the corner?

This whole episode started after he complained about playing time, according to Jonathan Feigen.

I think this whole issue is being overblown, and fans here are being way too drastic. Does White have a lot of personal issues? Sure. But the Rockets only have to deal with two things. One, whether or not White will spend the time to develop his game. Two, whether he can perform on the court with teammates. Everything else, his twitter fetish, his ego, they're par for course for deal with NBA players.

And the Rockets have plenty of time to work things out anyway. He's still only 21. The Rockets are stocked at his position. Even if he takes the rest of the year off to work on his problems, it's not important. After all, most people had him pegged as DLeague this year anyway.

The damage is done. White definitely has bipolar disorder. The twitterfest clearly shows white to be in a manic stage. Charlie sheen is an example of this behavior. Bipolar is permenant and will not go away. He will soon be in a depressed state. White can be medicated but does he want to? One of his tweets said he is back on his meds again, meaning he quit taking them for a while which resulted in the mess. Be happy this is happening now and not late into the season or in the playoffs. Develop him in the d-league and then trade him.

"It's something we'll have to talk about," White said. "Anything that I do from an operational standpoint you have to consider what it does for me from a health standpoint.
That is something that I will ask that my doctor and their doctor can make a recommendation on. There is no place where you can't consider my illness."

    Wow!

Lesson #1 about dealing with people with mental illness. If you don't have to, don't. But it's too late. We drafted him.

Want me to sound cruel? Never invite a vampire into your house.

People with a mental illness will always be about me, myself, and I. What are you doing about me? Can't you see I'm suffering? As for myself, you're just not doing enough.

And these comments are from ROXTXIA, one of the board's resident bleeding hearts. But I had someone in my life with mental illness. I served my time.

Here's hoping Morey has an infinite well of patience. He's gonna need it. The media distraction is already total crap.

White's comments about the organization taking time to now understand what mental illness is.....yeah, I guess so, and it amounts to:

Morey: "Oh, f***, why did I let McHale talk me into this?"

Les: (on the phone with Morey) "This is your mess, you deal with it, I don't want any phone calls from lawyers about being sued because you didn't hold this guy's hand enough. I'm tired of throwing my money away in the draft. Maybe White can go play with Sergio Llull. Whaddaya think?"

Uhhhh Royce... I see this as a lame attempt at justifying what he has been doing the past week before he comes back to the team.

Seems like the main issue he has RIGHT NOW is not playing in the d-league, but the less than glamorous lifestyle he thinks he needs in RGV to support his mental health. For example: Royce has caused a fuss before about the nutritional value of the food the team offered him on the plane. Probably a bunch of little things like that he can contribute to mental health.

I really hope Ron Artest has reached out to Royce. Royce is giving himself way too much of a crusader title by claiming he is the first of his kind.

As for the Dr Fink visits, just because he shows up doesn't mean He's actually allowing this guy to treat him.

With this meeting on Monday I hope Morey & the rockets do everything they can to hold their ground with him. If they give up more special privileges the behavior will get worse. I don't think Morey will continue down this path without a better situation for the team and YES the fans in place. I don't think les will allow anything else to make a distraction in the media. That's where they will probably draw the line in the sand.

And lastly... How dare Royce exploit his kids like that for public sympathy. What a chump move. This has nothing to do with them. It takes a low individual to exploit his own kids for some war over nonsense at the workplace that doesn't involve them at all.

I have no problem with the team making some arrangements for him or giving him some special treatment, just as they would for his physical condition. Dwyane Wade suffers from migraines triggered by sharp light, and I would assume the Heat take steps to minimize his exposure to this trigger.

That said, I don't get the feeling that Royce is interested in a dialogue. His statement was packed with vague phrases and wiggle words, which is usually a sign of someone trying to justify an unjustifiable position, not somebody trying to clarify a situation. He also makes constant references to his 'illness' and the things it makes him do rather than referring to himself as an active agent with the power to affect his situation. It's as though the only actors are his illness and the Rockets, and he is just a victim and an observer of his circumstances.

He acknowledges the things the Rockets are doing to help him, but he doesn't seem willing to meet the organization halfway. They're taking steps to accommodate his condition. What steps is he taking to accommodate the fact that they have to run a professional basketball team that he is just one small part of?

I have no doubt he'd be happier playing 20 minutes a night for the Rockets. I'm sure Patterson, Mook, and Smith, as well as fellow rookies Jones, Motiejunas, and Machado, would rather have had that, too. But none of them threw a Twitter tantrum - they responded by putting their heads down and going to work. Does he really think he's going to be accepted and respected by his teammates if he pitches a fit to cut to the front of the line? And all of this is completely beside the bigger point - like most rookies, he's not currently good enough to help them win basketball games.

I'm not trying to be unsympathetic. I'm sure dealing with his condition is much harder than any of us appreciate. But nothing about that condition prevents him from being a good soldier, showing up to work, and earning his minutes like everyone else. It's hard to shake the feeling that he's upset that he isn't getting minutes for the big team and is trying to use his condition as leverage to get more.

Rockets tell White to report to D-League.

White refuses to report to D-League.

I don't see where there is much to negotiate. White needs to go to D-League now, or get help from doctors immediately so he can report to D-League as soon as possible.

We all need to move forward. Give him a chance. If he screws up again...it's up to management.
