The past couple of days/weeks a lot of people have been upset over the rockets play and rudy's coaching. my thought: LAY OFF OF HIM The Yao fans have been complaining about Yao not being used enough and the guards hogging it. This is true, but it is not all Rudy's fault. Look, coming into this league there were a lot of "ifs" concering Yao and it would have been foolish for Rudy and his crew to design a whole new offensive scheme over the summer for Yao. During the Hakeem era, Rudy knew what Hakeem could do and for one Dream wasn't a rookie when Rudy took over. Fast forward to today when Yao comes over you sorta knew he could do certain things but not many people could have predicted how smoothly he has adjusted to the nba. Think about it, had Rudy totally retooled the offense over the summer to suit a center-orientated team and Yao not had adjusted as quickly/easily we would have been in deep s**t. The fact that Yao arrived so late in camp didnt help Rudy either. The plays that he used for Dream cannot necessarily translate over to Yao because the team is totally different and the new zone rules affect a lot on those plays. Its hard to come up with a whole bunch of new plays during the season because most of the time (i would imagine at least I have no knowledge of what actually would go one during a practice, this just my opionion take it for what its worth to you) at practices you would work on what hurt you last game and prepare for the upcoming team. Working in one to two new plays every couple of weeks seems reasonable because you have to practice these plays till you have them down perfect. and frankly some plays you cant use against certain teams. So Rudy did what he could he tried making some plays for Yao and as the season progresses I am sure he will get more plays in for Yao. It is also hard on Rudy because Yao though playing well has been tiring out in games which is due to his long schedule over the past two years. So rudy really had to keep what worked for him two years ago when they won 45 games and that is a lot of iso type plays. Obviously over this offseason Rudy will be working on his playbook for Yao now that he fully knows exactly what Yao can and cannot do in the NBA. and with a real summers rest and conditioning I expect Yao to be in better shape to deal with the NBA next year and also gives the team a year of experience of playing with him too. So lay off of Rudy T if by the end of next season if the rockets are mainly playing iso and not a center-orientated offense then get on his case but for now its fine. We are still over .500 and have a young team at that this season. I would be all for trading to get a traditional PG though trade anyone cept Yao,SF,Griff and Cato (we need him he is a great backup C, think about it most other teams Cato would be starting and we have him as a backup!)
this should be Rudy's last year as head coach of the Rockets. in the interest of new blood.. a new program.. a new team..
It's not just Yao fans. It's all the Rox fans. And the (previous?) problem is not just about Yao not getting the ball. It's about a lot of things. Anyway, Rudy stays.
Eh? So, they had trouble getting him the ball because they needed more time to design plays? *cough*bull*****cough*cough*. It's nice to develop chemistry. But we were seeing the "plays" that you think didn't exist. Just not enough of them. There certainly are arguments for keeping Rudy. That just isn't one of them.
while i am first to admit that rudy has his faults, i think he is a very capable coach...my question is who would we get to coach? some college guy? some old player (drexler?)? or some retread nba coach? the nba does not seem to have the same assistent coach/apprentice system that the nfl has, and the players control the lockeroom way more than any other sport...give rudy a break, he's only had half a season with this team...
That's right haters: The Rockets AND Rudy are winning again. It's Rudy's coaching that has gotten this team to play as, well, a team. It's Rudy's offensive scheme that has them scoring in triple digits and making over 50% of their shots. And you know what, haters? Get used to it, Rudy ain't going anywhere.
