Det, Those dudes would suck in the NBA with perhaps a few exceptions. The European style of play is not condusive to NBA ball. The Americans DID get b.s. calls yesterday, and Rudy had a right to be pissed about it. But seriously, even scrub NBA teams get up to play the big boys. There have been some pretty decent NBA players from Lithuania before. Aren't Ilgauskas and Sabonis Lithuanian? You see a lot more Europeans sneaking into the NBA these days. I would think a team that played the best of the best in the NBA so close in two games would have SOMEBODY with talent on par with a Jason Collier. Still, that doesn't mean that they can't, either. I think we need to find some common ground here. It's true that the European level of play has been increasing to such an extent that they can cause a near upset every once in a while. However, it's obvious that one game doesn't at all show that they have what it takes to play in the NBA. If the Clippers beat the Lakers, it would not be a big deal, because the Clippers, as terrible as they are, still consist of NBA talent. The way you guys are making it sound is that Lithuania has nobody who could play in the NBA. If that's the case, this last game would be more like a CBA team almost beating an NBA all star team. That's different from a Clips-Lakers matchup. Moreover, the Lakers could care less when playing the Clippers, while the Dream Teamers were playing in the Olympics. ------------------
Lithuania has a really good teams and some of the purest shooters i have ever seen. I dont think that they are better than the best players in the US, but they are undoubtably better than a lot of the NBA players. ------------------

heypartner- Jasikevicius was a starter at MD...and he graduated 2 years ago. He was a *very* streaky shooter but when he was on he was awesome. He played SG/SF at MD. He looked pretty solid against Kidd and Payton IMO. ------------------

Partner--Jasikevicius started every game for Maryland in both his junior and senior seasons. Despite the fact the he may now forever be known for a shot he missed, he is actually an excellent shooter with good ball handling skills. He probably won't make an NBA team but I wouldn't be surprised if he were invited to some camps after this performance. ------------------

Just a few points about the Lithuanian team... As far as big men go, I think Milwaukee was sniffing around Zukauskas at one time. I don't know if that ever went anywhere... Another thing that should be kept in mind with the Lithuanian team is that most of them have spent a huge amount of time playing together as a unit (unlike the American team)...Zukauskas, Stombergas, Masiulis, Adomaitis and probably a few more were all a part of a Kaunas based team called Zalgaris which won the Euro-league championship a year or so ago...and the entire team has probably played together on serveral occasions before this olympics- like the world championships two years or so ago (USA was represented by unknowns because it was during the lock-out - but the team was still coached by Rudy T.)..In the "world championship" tournament our CBA folks got beat by the Lithuanians by like a point or two...Lithuanians were without Sabonis and Ilgauskas - just like now (the rest of the Lithuanian players were essentially the same as they were in the olympics).. SO it's hard to tell what the players on that particular team could do. But future teams will continue to improve more and more. The country is absolutely obsessed with basketball...my fiance (she's Lithuanian and is there now) said the entire country came to a complete standstill in the middle of the working day to watch the game against the USA...kids play the game practically from birth - and now they have the opportunities and freedom to come to America in their college or even high school years to learn the game in a more NBA style...SO I dont know if this particular squad has players with NBA potential...but future stars will emerge from that country and they are going to be a booger to deal with in future olympics.. ------------------
