Yes, in anticipation of the upcoming McCartney concert at Minute Maid Park, just thinking back to both Beatles and McCartney solo CDs: Beatles top 5: 1. The White Album 2. Rubber Soul 3. Abbey Road 4. Sgt. Pepper 5. Beatles for Sale McCartney: 1. Band on the Run 2. Venus and Mars 3. Ram 4. McCartney 5. London Town
I'm not a big follower of Beatles. Just particatipating for fun. Beatles - Abbey Road - "White Album" Paul - Band on The Run - Give My Regards to Broad Street  Thats all I really listed to over the years
In order of awesomeness Revolver Abbey Road Help Rubber Soul Let It Be McCartney: nothing except Maybe I'm Amazed, his last great pop song. It was all downhill from there. Lennon was right about that.
Beatles: Please Please Me (I'm one of the few people in the world who thinks their debut is their best album) Rubber Soul Revolver Abbey Road A Hard Day's Night Solo Paul: Band on the Run Ram Those are the only two halfway decent albums.
I might be the one person in the world that not only does not listen to the beatles, but HATE the beatles. I don't understand why people revere them so much. There are a few odd songs I like, but for the most part they are silly: Hey Jude, for example (although this is more McCartney hate. HEEEEEY JUUUDE, and people are in tears when this song is played???? lol
It's all been said many times but they truly were originators.Everyone since has been influenced by them. The effect they had on shaping our culture was greater than anyone before or since. The Beatles as a group were simply amazing,as solo artist not so much. I couldn't really choose a favorite,so many epic albums packed with great songs. To me all epic stuff in it's own way. For Mcartney, never much of a fan outside of Band on the Run. So have any of you guys been to a concert at MM ? What are the acoustics like ?
Its hard to rank the albums. I think I'd put the top 4 as: Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, and Abbey Road, but I can't choose an order for them.
With Beatles: The White Album Sgt Pepper's Abbey Road Solo: Tug Of War Band On The Run Flowers In The Dirt Top McCartney songs: Every Night Fixing A Hole Here, There and Everywhere
McCartney has only credited Ram and McCartney releases to himself. Didn't realize he had created so many other albums with Wings. I still associate McCartney's best work with the Beatles.
I just lump Wings, McCartney, etc. under McCartney. I'm one who wasn't a big fan of his solo stuff as a kid, but I've gained a greater appreciation for some of them now. Particularly McCartney, Venus & Mars, and Ram. Band on the Run was always considered an excellent album, even when his other stuff was being bashed. Lennon's had his share of duds, too- Some Time in NYC? Mind Games and Walls & Bridges are very good, but not great. The only "great" Lennon solo CDs, to me, are the first two. Same with Harrison- first two great, others very good to good to average. Beatles are in a whole other category. To whomever said they hate the Beatles, that is your prerogative, but there's a reason they are as popular as they are. Their records sounded great- put on Rubber Soul and The Who Sings My Generation (one of my favorites, BTW) back to back- sound doesn't compare. The Beatles had the best production of any group in the 60s, with the exception of maybe Pet Sounds. Songs? Diverse, and great. They created great melodies. Look at a great song like Satisfaction from The Rolling Stones- as great a song as that is, there's really not much of a melody throughout most of it. The Beatles had 3 great songwriters- all in the same group. They wrote great pop songs, great anthems, great rockers (Revolution, Helter Skelter), lyrics were at least interesting if not always coherent (Joo Joo Eyeball?), and they had a stunning range of instruments, from French horns to sitars (Norwegian Wood) to violins (Eleanor Rigby) to distorted guitar to glockenspiel to flute (Fool on the Hill), etc. The only reason some feel they're overrated is the enormity of their popularity. I have other groups I prefer (The Who), some who I feel have better lyricists (REM), and some whose music I feel is more closely linked with current music (Neil Young, Velvet Underground). But there's no doubt who is the most influential, most popular, and overall best musical group of all time.
