Pringles are not baked. Pringles have the same amount of fat as Classic Lays, and actually more saturated fat. By comparison, Baked Lays have zero saturated fat with like a gram/serving of "good" fat.
Baked Lays are probably the best chip out there, when considering both taste and health factors. No gross aftertaste, like with many other chips, and not very filling, which is good. I've never tried Baked Doritos, but since those are a tortilla chip, I'd imagine that they wouldn't be nearly as good. By the way, Flamin' Cheetos are an abomination of American society. I never understood how anyone could eat those.
Have you ever shook out a pack of artificial creamer over a fire? Have you ever lit a Hot Wheels track on fire above the ground to watch it drip. Well, aside from the fact kids learn these things, suffice it to say that my biology teacher in HS probably should not have further taught me how to measure calories by lighting a peanut on fire. Seriously, light the Frito. Take 5 seconds or so to get going. You will think twice about eating another one. Don't do it inside though, because it does reek. Get one of those big scoop dipping ones for an amazing display.
Blasphemer! How could you possibly favor a foreign chip over the pride of Brookshire, TX (at least they used to be based there) - Bob's Texas Style?
i know...i know...it is truly difficult for me...but, alas, i must admit...i am a traitor..i love zapp's!!!
Reminds me of ole' Frito Pie. Forget where I got them. It was the bag of Fritos with a slit in the middle then I guess chili and cheese and whatever else in it. It was good, I think. I used to love when Taco Bell did their Frito Burrito or something. No one else in the world seemed to like them, but I ate them. I think Sonic did some type of Frito Wrap. Wait, maybe I had that Frito chili thing at Diner 59. Well whatever. btw, those milkshakes are great! Now going back to baked chips, I find that Baked Lays are simply not related to Lays. They don't taste alike (although I do like both). I imagine the classic Lay's are "lightly fried potato slices with salt and butter smeared on top". Of course that "butter" flavor is increasing my cholesterol by who knows how much. That's why I eat SunChips!!! But, you would think there would be more than one company making baked potato chips, but there's not. And lighting a Frito on fire is like lighting a cashew on fire. But I did a physics project on plasma, and I found a site that tells you how to make artifical plasma. Long story short, you slice a grape in half and put it in the microwave. Of course it's supposedly dangerous and it might ruin your microwave. I'd look it up for more info, but nice show though!!! And those chips that "that make your ass leak" are Olestra brand crap. It's the one with the upside-down "MOM" packaging.
Nope. It is those WOW chips with Olestra. http://www.cspinet.org/new/calestra.htm http://www.cspinet.org/new/indy319.html
I know not many of you are vegetarian, but for those who are: avoid the Baked Lays. They have chicken fat in them.
Oh reeealllllyyy??? I'm not a vegetarian, but this reminds me of what KFC once dealt with. They marketed their "Veggie Twister" where meatless eating people went to KFC to get a vegetarian meal. Oh those Brits (no offense, of course). That was a few years ago anyway.
<b>Frito</b> pies are good - <i>if</i> prepared properly. I was disappointed when Sonic did their Frito wrap thing. It consisted of a tortilla, a slight coating of chili on the inside, about five Fritos, and a whole bunch of onions. <b>Olestra</b> chips (yes, here I am with your chemistry lesson again ) - they're trying to give you the best of both worlds by adding a synthetic molecule that behaves as a fat (hence the greasy taste and feel people expect from chips) but is structured so that it cannot be broken down and digested. If any of you have experience with biochemistry, this Olestra thing is not a long-chain fatty acid; more like a bulky, round closed circle. Since it can't be digested, it will go all the way through your system, resulting in problems at the other end. Finally, <b>Baked Lays</b> - much better than regular, though like any chip you still don't feel like you've eaten actual food. Flavored ones are better. <b>Baked Doritos</b> - well, I'm glad they finally came out with some flavors. Gives me something healthy to get at Subway, delis, etc. where a meal is usually a sandwich and chips. Plain baked tortilla chips are only good with dip or salsa. I've eaten them to "justify" dipping them in cream-based dips that are flavored with things like cheeses and bacon... probably still pretty bad for you. For those of us who seem to gain weight no matter what we do, even baked chips, pretzels, or snack mix still have the problem of being all processed carbohydrates and no other nutrients. I try to eat a lot of these expensive "Protein Chips" from places like Central Market, since they're full of soy protein and whole grains and there are very few calories in them. If I didn't have to worry about calories, I would just eat big bags of Salsa Verde Doritos with every meal... sigh...
I bet you had no idea how successful this thread would be did you ole' Train? Anyway I do agree that the baked are better than the regular but I love Zapp's Cajun Dill. Those are ridiculous. I used to live in Louisiana by the factory. Also the Cape Cod line of chips is quite good if you want a plain potato chip and the best are the crinkle style cracked pepper Kettle Chips. But I never eat chips by themselves, they are best with a boarshead deli sandwich. Another great concoction for those who tire of the potato is buying some snyder's pretzel bits and a bag of tostido's restaurant style corn chips and eating one of each at the same time. It is awesome.
They auto-combust when I pour my homemade Texas chili on them. Oh, anybody what to come over for some beer and chili?
Has anyone had crab-flavored chips? They're truly horrible. I can't imagine how anyone could eat those. But while on the topic of chips: http://www.chipofthemonth.com/

This article says it is just the BBQ flavoring in the BBQ Baked Lays that has chicken fat. http://www.raisedroof.com/fritolay.html
