Actually if you do the 3 for 1 it works . I'm not a real big realgm fan, but it would work finacially. He has 2 yrs left, Eddie has 2,Taylor 5 and Mobley 2. It win win.
How is he any more undersized than Wallace? The guy is 6'10 245lbs. He's been in the west most of his young career and has produced against anyone he's played against.
I'm not really a Shareef fan. Maybe it is because the teams he's been on haven't been winners, but the same is said for Brand. Brand is a good defender, harder worker then Shareef and has hard work ethic which can be contagious to his other teammates work ethic. He's a guy I think would compliment the Rockets extremely well in the offseason. As it is now, I'm not thinking about the Rockets in the playoffs this season. If they do congrats to them. If not, they're still on the pace I expected them to be at this stage. The Rox have a lot of growing up to do nonetheless and a lot of voids to fill in their positions. Three being Point guard, Small Forward, and Powerforward. Everyone has their own ideas of how the Rockets should be run right now, so I'll be sure to share mine as well. Acquire Brand in the offseason. Sure he may ask for the max in his contract, but atleast if we got him over Shareef, we'd have a much more solid defender, and harder worker. More bang for your buck. He'd compliment Ming very well on the weakside, and has a good post up game when Ming gets tired and isn't making his buckets, which by hopefully the start of next season he won't be as fatigued. Hopefully Ming will be well rested, more muscular, have more endurance, and less media intagibles to deal with. I'll go with the idea of SF at SG, and getting a savvy veteran PG to start. Then drafting a rookie PG with a pass first mentality off the bench. Dump Moochie if at all possible. The guys too small, not athletic enough, a poor defender, and doesn't have a good outside touch. Atleast Steve Kerr is more headstrong and is deadly from beyond the arc. Move Mobley to 6th man off the bench. Small Forward. Maybe by the time the start of next season, Boki will be a bit more developed, and prepared for the NBA. If not, get a guy who can shoot off the bench. Rice would normally fill this role, but he's not getting any younger, and is injury prone. His touch seems to of faded, and his knees buckle under him when he tries to stop for a jumper. So he's always leaning ackwardly when trying to shoot. Posey is a great player who I think should start, but his outside touch doesn't compliment the kick out passes Ming does, and while I like slashers, I think we have too many slashers, and not enough shooters. Get a good consistent shooter, and the Rox will do just fine there. So as it is now, here would be my ideal Rox team. PG- Starter: Anonymous Veteran PG / Bench: Anonymous Rookie PG SG- Starter: Steve Francis / Bench: Cuttino Mobley (6th Man Of The Year ) SF- Starter: Posey / Bench: Healthy Rice, Boki, Morris, or good shooter. PF- Starter: Brand / Bench: Griffin. C: Ming / Bench: Hard working scrub, with outside touch. Overall I'm willing to sacrifice some defense for a more productive offense. If some of you guys are wondering where Cato, MoT, Moochie, Collier, etc are. I haven't either found a way to fit them in the equation, or would like to see them traded. Cato is producing very nicely this season, and keeping him would be nice, but I think we'd have to sacrifice him in order to get a player to fill our weaker positions. Moochie I just cringe when seeing on the court. He ranks up there with Mark Madsen in terms of cheerleading off the bench, but aside from that, I just don't like his game. He's too small, too slow, a poor defender, bad passer, and not a good enough shooter. MoT: I'm against what most people are saying about him. He's shown signs of life lately in his game, but I'd still like to trade him. Maybe it's the fact that he' rusty still, but his production is inconsistent. Collier I'd keep simply for someone to come up off the bench for Yao, especially if the Rockets aren't able to keep Cato. He seems like a solid player, and I believe he has a decent mid range jumper, which would be nice for a Center coming off the bench. Someone to change how the defenders approach the Rockets offense. Anyhow, I'm sure there are thousands of ideas of how to mold this team, and I'm sure there will be thousands more afterwards, but I just couldn't help myself
LB - for the Rockets to get Brand - they have to acquire cap room from a three-way trade partner or trade directly with Clippers in a sign-and-trade for Brand. I think either scenario costs the Rox more than Cato and Moochie. Brand's a good option too. We should check both Brand and SAR, and try to make something happen. Y'all who pooh-pooh SAR are dead wrong. The guy is legit. Not superstar (which is good next to Steve and Yao), but solid, and definately working in the flow. SAR is not a guy you think of forcing the action and trying to "get his". That's Cuttino Mobely, not SAR. College: California '99 This is the guy we are talking about. Some of you don't seem to know. He's rangy, slippery, good hands, nose for the ball in boards. Good shooter. Post game, drop step, inside-out - an arsenal. NOT a hard-hat. NOT a banger. But definately a more developed and dependable player than Eddie or Taylor. Pretty Smart. Good spacing, movement w/o ball, position d. The hard-hat option is Brand. Maybe we can't get him. SAR is also very good - would be a strong compliment to a more developed Ming and SF; who would immediately demand attention and respect; who could handle and convert as the third option. I certainly like this better than Cat Mobely as third option.
pasox, I still don't know why people don't like what he brings to the table. 20 and 8 on the same amount of shots Cat takes. Demands respect in the post from offense and defense.
Shareef is no longer available. He is heading for Spurs. http://www.woai.com/spurs/story.aspx?content_id=060F3616-09D8-4843-8C99-330C51241D11
Shareef's contract scares me...BUT, we are going to be over the cap for a while. Shareef's defense, or lack thereof scares me...BUT I don't think he would make us worse in that category, even if we trade away Griffin (who defensively is onyl a good shotblocker). Shareef's pluses are many, though. He is what we all hope Eddie Griffin can turn out to be offensively. He is that PF that you can throw out there for 35+ minutes a night, and not have to worry about sucking, if you know what I mean. People here have argued he's not a PF, but he has as much of a power game as any PF we currently have, and it's the position he's excelled at all his years in the league. Given the fact that we're financially strained anyway, the deal I'd throw out there is the following: Atlanta trades: PF Shareef Abdur-Rahim (20.2 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 2.9 apg in 38.5 minutes) PG Dan Dickau (2.8 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.9 apg in 8.8 minutes) Atlanta receives: PF Maurice Taylor (6.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.0 apg in 19.4 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (4.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 2.5 apg in 18.7 minutes) PF Eddie Griffin (8.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.7 minutes) Change in team outlook: -3.2 ppg, +2.3 rpg, and -0.2 apg. Houston trades: the opposite TRADE ACCEPTED I highly doubt Atlanta would be chomping at the bit to do this, but if they did it would be sweet. EDIT: Not that it really changes anything, but just thinking about the Spurs getting him for Malik Rose and Steve Smith makes me mad. I mean, he would make that a much better team, I think, and if that could entice Duncan to stay, it would keep them at the top of the division for awhile
Leebigez, You're absolutely right. But you are neglecting everything I'm saying: 1) He's overpayed. Getting him means we tie our hands of any other trades. 2) He plays no defense. I couldn't care less about shotblocking or size. He either doesn't know how or just doesn't want to play defense. 3) His career with the Hawks has been inconsistent. Is it a coincidence that he played SF for the Grizzlies but plays PF for the Hawks? He's not a PF in the West. He's a SF. 4) There will be better TRADE deals in the summer, not FA deals. There will be options to trade. There will be people trying to unload players. 5) We have a post player, his name is Yao Ming. With Francis penetrating, Ming playing in the post...What we need is a VERY sweet shooting SF. A young Glen Rice is a PERFECT FIT. 6) Reef's not a great 3-pt shooter. Not to say we have anyone better, but if we're trading, we need one. In the end, Reef 20 and 8 is not worth the contract and the defense. Right now, SF is not a big need for us. Our offense will come once Ming gets a bit more relaxed and Mo starts healing. Then in the offseason, then we start trimming the edges.
OMFG! If the Spurs make that deal it's a total rape job! S%$!, maybe we could have him for Rice and Taylor. Carroll, Les, they're desperate, get on the horn now! Frickin' Malik Rose and an expiring contract! You gotta tell me we can beat that!
I'd rather get rid of mobley, griffin, and taylor and insert posey at the 2 and morris/rice/nachbar at the 3
you'd rather trade Mobley than Moochie Norris. I mean, Mobley duplicates a lot of what Francis does, but Moochie just doesn't do anything.
Sane, where did you getthis inconsistent thing from. The guy has been as consistent as they come. Everyone who screams for Rasheed, what are his numbers? I'm willing to bet Shareef has been more consistent than him while making a couple of million less. Everyone in overpaid who makes a million bucks playing sports, but thats the market place. If this guy was on the fa market after this season, he would probably be the 4th or 5 th most sought after of player behind Duncan,Kidd,Payton, and O'Neal. I don't know what you're talking about, because the guy is better and more consistent at either position than anythone we have on our team at either the 3 or 4. He's scores and rebounds better than both our 3 and 4 position players. He rscores more effecient than both our pf while shooting at a higher clip. Its all justified, but obviously if he couldcancel out the production of the 4's in the west, then his job would be done. How many times have Francis scored 20 and given up 20? He is suppose to be one of our advantages. If he wind up with the spurs For Smith and Malik Rose, its going to be very, very sad. Instead of penetrating and kicking out, what about a guy with a great mid range shot, can post up while Ming takes a rest from time to time and a guy who can rebound and gives Francis a release instead of running in and trying to get a rebound. How about a guy who can keep the offensive flow steady while Francis and Ming rest sometimes on offense. SAR can do this at a 47% clip not the standard Mobley 40%,Taylor's 36%, and Griffins 35%.
lee, Look at his stats. He hasn't been as consistent as the past, and I repeat, he can not play PF in the West. Just because he's better than what we have doesn't mean he's worth the Max. If he were making 8M, I'd be all for it. In a heartbeat. But he makes too much. Since the luxury tax has become a part of the NBA, no MAX players have been excused because they excel in a certain area. It's a big deal now. If you pay someone the MAX, he should be MAX material. It would hurt us at other positions if we got SAR. We wouldn't be able to afford the role players we need with 3 MAX salaries. MoT for Horry is still a better deal.

lee, It's not a matter of Horry doing as well as Reef. Horry is not half the player Reef is. But Horry is NOT worse than MoT this season. he's much better, even if he dazes through the regular season. The added plus is that we get out of Mo's contract, and then after using Horry to raise our playoff hopes, we let him walk. With Reef, we're tied up. About his stats, I honestly can't read what you put down there but I'll definitely take your word for it. But it's becoming quite normal for him to shoot poorly these days, and to tell you the truth, he's STILL an awful defensive player. Plus, with Griffin, Posey, and Boki developing, I don't want to have a F that makes the MAX and then be stuck with him. BTW, we have the 2nd best C in the league, and a top3 PG. Horry will do just fine, and it can only boost interest in our playoff run to have him here.
