Asked this on TT too. Just want to get Texans' fans opinion on this topic.

This thread is just about the odds being given to the Texans right now for being the favorite to win it all. Right now it's 3-1. Do you think it's too high or do you agree that the Texans should be the absolute favorite in the NFL?

This was discussed earlier on First Take, so that's why I'm asking Texans fans.

I placed a bet in vegas at the beginning of the year that the Texans would the super bowl at 10-1 odds. I wouldn't take the 3-1 odds though.

The Texans absolutely should be the favorite, because there's no team in the AFC that should be able to beat them at Reliant Stadium in January. If the Texans take care of business, they'll essentially have one game against an elite team, and that's the Super Bowl.

On the NFC side, though? San Francisco, Green Bay, New York, Atlanta, maybe even Chicago... I'd argue that all of those teams are elite or close to it. In all likelihood, the NFC representative will have to beat two elite teams (maybe even three!) just to even GET to New Orleans, where they would hypothetically play the Texans.

Are the Texans the best team in the NFL? That's up for debate. Honestly, the Texans would probably be a 2 or 3 point underdog to a couple of those teams. However, as far as odds go... if Team A has to beat just one elite team to win the Super Bowl, while Team B has to beat three or four... Team A likely has better odds before it starts.

    yeah I wouldn't take 3-1 either

but I did snag JJ Watt for MVP at 18-1 this week. Given the amount of hype he's getting, I think that's worth the risk at this point.

Lomas was trying to argue that the Texans shouldn't be the favorite because the AFC is weaker this year and whatever team comes out of the NFC will be more battle tested and have an advantage in the Super Bowl. But when you think about it, the fact that AFC is weaker is exactly why the Texans should have better odds. You might think an NFC team is better, but since there's more competition in the NFC, the odds of any given NFC team even reaching the Super Bowl goes down. If you rephrased the question to ask "Which team has the best odds to win their conference championship and go to the Super Bowl," I think Houston become the more obvious choice. And if we have better odds to reach the Super Bowl, that likely points to better odds to win it as well.

Exactly. There might be better teams in the NFC, but if I have to place my money right now, I'd go with the team that has the best chance of actually being in the game. Easy choice. You could also argue that the NFC team might be more worn down (injuries, attrition, etc.) from playing those other elite teams.

Super Bowls tend to be coin flip games, anyway. There are just so many unique elements. The bye week before, massive nerves, lack of a home field, the super-long halftime and timeouts... the game often lacks rhythm for big chunks. The safest bet is to go with the team most likely to make it and hope for the best.

I'm sure every team not named the Atlanta Falcons wishes they were as "weak" as the Texans if 7-1 is weak to you.

SO Fauria is talking... and he says running game... good defense... good receivers, etc., etc., and here I was thinking he was talking about the TEXANS, he says "49ers." Well... excuse me. :(

Let's just finish the season with homefield, win a couple of playoff games, THEN worry about what our odds of winning the Superbowl are.

I like how in that video all of them except Stephen A mention the Texans getting whipped by the Packers while they talk up San Francisco but not one of them mentions the beating the 49ers took from the Giants at home.

I didn't watch the video but it completely baffles me how most of the national media has forgotten that we dominated Denver in their building, while they go about slurping off Peyton.

Anyways, I think there are 4 or 5 teams who should be considered the favorites and we're in that group.
