I was against the Trade. but now. . . i think we won on it. HOWEVER I think we traded one set of problems for another set I think KT's biggest accomplishment on this team was that he Pushed MoT and EG to be better. Mo has been playing better but i think If KT was here. . . he'd be further along. I think Posey should be our starting 3 I think Glen Rice is fine where he is. I think Our 3 spot got a MAJOR upgrade while our 4 spot took a minor downgrade. Overall this is a better team in some aspects but worse in others. Our D at the 3 has been solidified and the Shoots needed there has been lessen. We have another person to bring the ball up . . .overall I Market improvement Our D at the 4 has faltered a bit. For people hating KT's shot and how bad it was. . . well folx. . .we ain't getting that 18 ftr from what we have left either. [Though I like the hustle out of Tmo] How do you rate our improvements and liabilities since the trade? Rocket River
I was unsure about the trade even though I hated giving up KT and was worried that Posey's talents would go to waste because our guards wouldn't be able him involved but he has done well despite the fact that he still needs to be set up for fast breaks and pick and rolls better.Posey does need to improve his shooting but he has a reasonably good stroke and is a good defender. We would be far worse without him at this point.
Yeah, our 3 got an upgrade and our 4 got a downgrade, but wasn't KT gone anyways after this year? At least it gives EG the chance to go, he has to show signs of life, which I think he has done, or go.
Hated the trade and still do. I like Posey as a player, but I think that our defense was going to get better anyway. Hawk is a poor man's Posey (who is a poor man's Artest anyway...) and provides almost as much on the floor as Posey does. What we are missing most is K.T.'s Offensive skills. He was the only big man that could put the ball on the floor and get to the bucket 1x1. I think that if K.T. was told "your the starting 4 (or 3), and given a decent contract extension, he would have worked hard and probably would have developed better chemistry with Yao Ming than anyone else on the team!! I hope we re-sign K.T. as a free-agent in the off-season!!
I haven't done the comparison, but I would bet our defensive stats (opponent ppg, opponent FG%, opponent pps) are worse now than before the trade. But, there was more going on than just the Posey trade, so I won't lay that at his feet. I still think Thomas is a better player than Posey, but I like the trade anyway just because it balances the team better.
Marginal upgrade at the 3 spot and a HUGE downgrade at the 4 spot. Also a downgrade as far as team chemistry (KT was one of the smartest players, if not THE smartest player on the team). The trade was a killer as far as THIS year goes. May or may not be a good thing for the future. I think the trade was made solely with the future in mind, i.e. to get Griffin more playing time. People continue to overlook the negatives of this trade when assessing progress this year.
Huge upgrade at three. MoTaylor, not a three, Kenny Thomas, not a three, Glenn Rice, a three who never plays, has there been a Glenn Rice sighting recently, Also, huge upgrade in Rockets defense, Posey can guard two positions, Also, huge upgrade in Rockets transition game, I liked Kenny, but this trade benifits the Rockets IMHO
Was a great trade then, and is a great trade now. Our main problem offensively is ball movement. KT is one of the few guys in the league, who would make our offensive problems even larger. Moreover, Posey has gotten many easy baskets, something sorely lacking in our offense. The only thing that misses KT, is the dog that mistaked his face for a can of Alpo.
Are you serious? What about him/his game lead you to this conclusion - or is it just the fact that he was beign compared to Francis and Mobley and Taylor, etc. Regardless, if we're talking smarts, I think we got an upgrade in James Posey. Defensibely, I think we'd be even better if Posey was used mroe effectively. Rudy failed to switch POsey onto Finley the whole 3rd quarter the other night - the reason is beyond me.
I think overall the trade helped . . . it filled some major needs at the 3 spot BUT I think the lack of competition has hurt the 4 spot I think Mo and EG [being the laid back fellows they are] seem comfortable .. . and not being pushed to be better so the 4 spot when from depth three different styles of players to soso depth . . . . Rocket River
kidrock You are half right, it was a good trade then. Our 3 position is definitely better now. But, you are wrong about the 4. When KT left he was 3rd in assists on the team. He was undenyably the most improved player on the team last year and the most consistant player last year. I keep waiting for EG to step up but, he hasn't. MoT has one good game a month. He usually is shooting poorly, turning the ball over way too much and rarely gets the number of rebounds that you need from him. KT was the best 4 on the team and still would be if he were still here.
I like the trade in the long run if we can sign Posey because he just looks like a good piece to a playoff team. Likes to play defense, runs the floor very well, looks like a decent shooter so far, and has a little mean streak in him which I always love in players. In the short term I think it hurt us though, with having to play Mo Taylor so much. He's just not a good player right now and his lack of defense and toughness just kills us right now.
I, too, believe the trade was good then and remains a good trade. However, come summertime, we can get K.T. back if we still want him while retaining Posey. However, people keep forgetting K.T. was traded because for some inexplicable reason he would not pass to Yao Ming.
kenny thomas started off well wwith the 76ers, but hes been doing horribly for the past 3 weeks, and now hes 3rd down the bench. Posey has been starting for the Rockets, he has been a very good ball stealer and scores about 12 a game. I say the Rockets got the better side of the deal
OT- KT averaged 2.0 assists as a Rocket. I can't get the numbers, from exactly the time of the trade, but Moochie averages 2.5 assists, and from his season splits, has yet to have a month averaging less than Kenny's 2.0 assists. Therefore, Kenny was 4th on the team in assists, behind Francis, Mobley, and Moochie. He was, however 3rd on the team in turnovers behind only Francis and Mobley. TheFreak-Good for chemistry? One of the smartest players on the team? His AST/TO ratio was a flat 1.0. Do we really need to relive the jab, step, stare and mambo again and again? Being one of the smartest players on this team doesn't equate to much at all. Posey is a huge upgrade at the 3. He is the defensive stud on this team, and is a much better shooter than his DEN numbers indicated. Griffin's only real problems right now are his shooting percentage and recent early foul trouble. Quick month of January comparison (post trade, roughly enough time for both players to get acclimated to new roles): Thomas: 9.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.09 spg, 0.18 bpg, 46% FG%, 29 minutes Griffin: 8.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.3 apg, 0.25 spg, 1.83 bpg, 39% FG%, 25 minutes Not a great deal of difference, IMO. I think Griffin's low field goal percentage is partly due to a slump from behind the arc. He's shooting 44% inside the arc, which is a lot more acceptable. I agree with what Rocket River said in the beginning- minor downgrade at the 4, major upgrade at the 3.
I agree with the trade was a good move, but the trade happened because of a log jam at the 4 spot. If not for Kelvin Cato, this would have left a huge hole.
This is not true. Kenny is injured with a deep thigh bruise. He first off the bench in his last two games and played 32 and 26 minutes, as usual, but has missed the last 4 Philly games. The two games he got his standard 7 and 9 rebounds and shot a combined 8-15. thumbs, his job was not to pass to Yao Ming (and he did more than Eddie anyhow), and this is quite evident now as Yao is not getting the ball anymore than usual. It is a PG problem, not a PF problem. The trade hurts us for the short run, and is good for the long run (at best), and at worst it is a terrible gamble if Griffin never learns to play basketball and we fail to resign Posey.
