Does anybody still see him as part of our future core? I'm probably in the minority but I still do. He's 23 and for big men, he still has 3 or 4 years until he's in his prime. As he's getting healthier he's looking better. I guess the big question is has he improved from his sophomore slump? Rebounding and lack of foul shooting are still concerns. What's everyones thoughts here?
The fear is for me is if we get Josh Smith, where does Pat play? Does he get dealt in the deal for Josh Smith? I would love to have Lin, Asik, Harden, J.Smith, Parsons, Patterson as our big 6 for the time being. Machado and G.Smith would be nice to develop. I imagine we would need to throw in 2 or all 3 rooks to get J.Smith.
Solid team defender, and overall smart player. He needs to be more consistent game-to-game as a scorer and post-up option. The 3-point shot is a nice addition, if he can keep defenses honest with it. His lackluster rebounding won't hurt us as much if he's paired with Asik, but when Asik isn't on the floor he needs to be more assertive on the glass as well.
IMO, Patterson has regressed since his rookie year. Where is the explosion and athleticism we saw in his rookie year?
I'm not much of a fan. All he does is shoot outside jumpers and play good "position" defense. He doesn't make things happen.
I think there is a good chance he becomes the backup 4 long term for the Rockets. I don't think he will be able to hold off Jones or DMo unless he gets on the glass a lot more. Patterson and Parsons would make a nice start to a bench.
He ain't bad at all, but some of his deficiencies like rebounding and going up strong make it seem like he might not be a keeper.
Hes a keeper IMO, wasnt healthy at all last year. Come mid season he should be back to his best. Very solid defender and can hit that mid range shot. hes looking more and more comfortable in the post as well, bigs need time to develop. He and T jones will be a nice PF combo in the future.
