    Comparing 1954 with 2012?

Are you saying that it will take at least 60 years for things in Pakistan to change?

Considering how far back Pakistan is compared to a lot of the world, it may very well take 60 years for positive change to occur. The country has serious problems. This act shouldn't be representative of a country as a whole, however. This is a sad story highlighting some pitiful parents and their crazy thought processes. Crazy things happen all over the world though. Whatever motivated them to do this is due to their backwards understanding of things can't be blamed on one sole reason.

You are a very smart poster.

But you cannot deny that these things are mostly done by people who share a certain common religion. You are too smart to really believe that this has nothing to do with religion.

Yeah, you can say this is a "cultural practice". But if an overwhelming majority of people who follow this "cultural practice" share the same religion, even though they actually live in very different countries (if you include "honor killings" in this context), then there is a link.

I am not saying that it is a core teaching of the religion, obviously not. But to say it has nothing to do with religion is incorrect.
