Tonight was one of, if not the WORST half of basketball I have EVER seen!!!! 1. Constantly getting outhustled. 2. Stupid fouls. 3. Some of the most selfish play imaginable. 4. Nothing resembling a team offense. The last time I saw something even close to this was near the end of Don Chaney's tenure as coach. It is clear that Rudy has lost control over this team. My patience with Rudy is fading fast.
curious...and I thought we got beat by a rain of 3s by the best shooting team in the NBA. I could be wrong though. So, really, who cares if a Hangout Boy loses his mind and can't tell that Dallas ran the same offense us we often do but just peppered us with threes. OK...let's make an adjustment on the 3pt line like the front page says....ummm, or ...maybe Dallas cannot be beat with 3pt shooting like that and they beat anyone. no...that couldn't possibly be it. R0ckets03 is down. RocketsPimp is down. Another Brother is down. Sirhangover is down. like I say...who is next at really disappointing me as a fan? CriscoKidd? Oeilpere, CBrownFanClub and I are really going to be the only ones standing after this year.
So you think it's just a coincidence that they scored just 28 points in the second half??? Get a clue.
You STILL don't get it do you? Losing to Dallas isn't what pisses fans off. It's the lackluster performance on a national stage against the team with the best record in the league. But, I'm sure you found some sort of moral victory out this asskicking. I'm sure Francis and Mobley will find some sort of silver lining out of this pathetic display of basketball.
Refman, go back to the hangout if you think Dallas can be beat shooting like that from 3pt land. get a clue.
It isn't the loss that bothers me. It is the clear lack of discipline and anything resembling a team concept. Sorry you can't tell the difference.
Refman, So, how many times do you need to insult me to make yourself feel better. Learn to criticize the Rockets without criticizing everything within your immediate vacinity. I mean, you started the "Pathetic!!!" thread afterall, right?? I said my piece and you told me to "get a clue" are you done??
It might be time to put your boy on the bench for instant offense and start Posey and Rice. We can't have two selfish, low iq players like Mobley and Francis operating on the court at the same time. Well, unless Mr 47% and 25 points/game rears his head again. lol
I was very happy with the Rockets performance in the first half. Part of the reason for the half-time lead was poor shooting by the Mavs, but I thought the Rockets' offense and defense looked pretty sharp. However, there were a couple of things I didn't understand about the second half. The number one thing that I didn't understand is why in the first place were we playing a sagging defense against a spectacular outside shooting team who has little inside presence. Second, I didn't understand why we didn't adjust when they started hitting everything in sight. For all I know, Rudy did try to get the defense to play tighter, so I'm not going to bad-mouth him. I'm just stating what I saw. Another thing that was kind of depressing is the Mavs simply stepped up their defense in the second half. After a while, I realized that there was absolutely nothing the Rockets could do to break the defense down and get easy shots. I mean to all those who are complaining, what would you guys suggest the Rockets do in the second half on the offensive end? Give it to Yao? Well, they weren't allowing him to get good position, much like the Celtics did a week or two ago, and when he did touch the ball he was completely surrounded. Not to mention the fact that Yao just looked plain bad in the second half. Also, Shawn Bradley stepped up his game and was blocking shots left and right. Furthermore, the zone defense they were playing wasn't allowing the guards to get any penetration. And here's the problem I see: the only way a team can beat a defense that is playing a zone and clamping down on the interior like the Mavs were last night is by hitting outside shots! In my opinion, the Rockets are quite possibly the worst outside shooting team in the NBA, or at least close to it. In that game, both teams were playing similar defenses by sagging off of the outside shooters. The difference is that the Mavs can put the ball in the hoop and the Rockets can't. Do some of you actually think the Mavs won the game because there offensive scheme is so much better? Hell, when Dirk wasn't taking turnaround fadeaways, the Mavs were just standing around the 3-point line and launching bombs. If that was the Rockets, we would be complaining about how they are taking such stupid shots, because it would resemble a bricklaying competition. But since the Mavs are such sharp-shooters, we hail Don Nelson as brilliant! My point is that having good outside shooters simplifies everything. If a team can hit outside shots consistently, then an "offensive scheme" means jack. I don't see why every team who plays the Rockets wouldn't go into a sagging zone defense. There's just no way the Rockets can beat you if you force them into taking outside shots. Make no mistake, if this man-to-man defense still existed, the Rockets would look a lot better than they do right now. Unfortunately, as it stands, when deciding what type of team to use a zone defense against, the Rockets are it. We all complain about the coaching and the stupidity of the guards, but I'll make it even simpler, the biggest problem with this team is inconsistent shooters. Basically, if you shoot 28% of the field, it doesn't matter how many turnovers you make or what type of offense you're running, you are going to lose. I've seen far too many 2 for 11 and 4 for 14 shooting nights from some of our players than I can take. The combination of our current personnel and the allowing of the zone defense just does not bode well for this Rockets team, and the only way I ever see them truly getting better is by acquring some guys who can consistenly knock down shots.
I watched the tape of the game over and over... rewind, play, rewind, play...(3rd and 4th). Yao was being screened by Raja Bell, of all people, by getting Lafrenze (3-point line) or Finley (3-point line) open off of drives by Nash. It was trick, play, after trick play. Yao would not call "switch," or leave the post. Thus, open 3, after open 3. It was a great adjustment from Don Nelson. If they weren't running screens for Yao...it was Van Exel driving and dishing to Finley. Not sure why Mobley/Posey would sag off the three on those plays. You'd think they'd learn. True. No one can beat the Mavs if they have that many open threes (if they hit them). But, Rudy didn't make the adjustments. It's almost like he didn't even realize what was happening. Guess he would need another half-time (game tape).
Maybe Rudy shared some of that half time "hawg leg" with MoT and Cat and the boys B4 he came out. I'd be off the wagon if I was coaching this team.
I didn't know where to post this, and the game thread seems to be jumbled... How many minutes did Ming play in the second half?
Wow. I didn't know that the Mavs 3pt shooting is the reason we only scored 28 points in the second half. Nice reasoning. Yea Refman...take your ass back to the hangout just like HP says, god forbid you point out how badly the rockets played, how many WIDE OPEN 3's we gave up to them and how boneheaded our guards played...AGAIN. You don't want to 'disappoint' anyone for being an objective fan.
