Bill Walton has annoyed me over the years like no other commentator can. I think I had a taste of hell when sicker than a dog and listening to him dog our team in the 1996 playoffs against the Sonics when they hit 23 out of 27 3 pointers.

That being said, he is been dead accurate regarding our play and the selfishness of our guards and their failure to get the damn ball to Yao during his commentary tonight. This guy might be a blowhard but he knows how basketball is supposed to be played.

He is old school yet he can relate to players and they would respect him because he was such a great player. Minimum, I would love for him to work with Yao. I think Walton could help him really elevate his game like how Moses taught Hakeem back at Fonde. We already know that he loves Yao.

If Walton coaches like he commentates, he'd be shot within the first practice.

Bill Walton, Kenny Smith, Matt Bullard, any of these guys. The Rockets can keep Rudy for sentimental reasons, in the broadcast booth.

You know what? Get Jerry Sloan! The perfect fit for Rockets! On the court, he fights for his players. Off the court, he despline his players.

You think Jerry Sloan has control of his team? Even when he's not on the floor, the Jazz know how to run an offense smoothly and play hard defense. They just dismantled one of the hottest teams in the league tonight in the Portland Trailblazers. If you thought the second half of the rox-mavs game was ugly, it was nothing compared to the jazz-blazers game.

Walton would be a good coach...especially a big man coach...but not for the Rockets. He is too much a free spirit and one of the guys. The Rockets need someone strong on discipline.

It's not Jerry Sloan. They have John Stockton on their team. We have Steve Francis. Big difference!!!!!

That's because anybody that doesn't get "it" is let go and someone who does (Harpring for example) is kept. He has control the same way most good little kids don't get their hands caught in the cookie jar more than once...whether their parents are home (metaphor for on the bench) or not.

    ANYBODY BUT KENNY SMITH!!!!!
Although some people don't like Bill Walton and think he is annoying, I think he is a fantastic commentator who is extremely knowledgable about the game, and could be an excellent coach if he wanted to be. I think his announcing gigs are too sweet to give up though.
I agree that it would be fantastic if a veteran big man such as Hakeem or Walton would work with Yao over the summer, especially since Yao has occasionally shown the ability to pull off some distinct Hakeem baseline moves. I really think his potential is limitless if he is groomed properly and stays healthy. I just hope they find some veterans for him to play with.
It is a long season though, lets see if they can improve. There is no way they are going to win the championship this year anyway, so lets give them a little time. The Rockets have been known to pull off some excellent personnel changes, with the occasional dud (Scotty Pippen, for example). Their recent lackluster performances are annoying though, and they definitely need to mix up something.
I would really like to have Pat Riley as the Rockets coach, but I think he is still entrenched in Miami, and I don't think he would want to be in Houston. He is more of your L.A., Miami, flashy-type person.

I don't know if Walton has any interest in coaching, but if he would consider it, so should we.

No, Walton is too wishy-washy...He embellishes too much...No.

I feel that Rudy needs an assistant coach that can design plays for us.

    Phil Jackson has Tex Winter.
    Rick Adelman has Pete Carril.

Phil and Rick are head coaches. They overlook the teams over-all development (the big picture).

But Tex and Pete worry about the X's and O's.

We need someone like that, that can help Rudy.
Our assistants are too young and inexperienced.

i agree with making walton a coach during his first 5 minutes of the game where he kept saying positive and accurate things. as time went oh however, he got bad, and then i realized, he would NOT make a good coach for the rockets. he just talks too much and says too much crap that has nothing to do with whats going on. definitely not better than rudy...

Bill Walton would be the perfect personal coach for Yao, but not for Rox.

Pat Reiley is my man. He knows how to play half court offense which is what Yao is good for. He knows how to build around a big man. He knows how to set up defense. Get Pat.
