For those who read the ESPN.com page 2 columns, do you think Bill Simmons or Greg Easterbrook is the better columnist. I like TMQ, because the guy keeps it interesting while he is limited to one subject, while Bill Simmons, who is very funny, can get tired with all the Boston stuff, and mentioning the same movies over and over again when isn't limited to the same subject like Easterbrook is limited to the NFL. I know this is kind of goofy but I was wondering, since I read every TMQ column this year and I had never read any of his stuff before.
Bill Simmons wins hands down for me. I read as much sports writing as anyone in the world, but I can't stand TMQ. It's just too much information for one article. Additionally, I'm not a fan of his writing style. It's right in that gray area between semi-professional and humorous. Sometimes it seems that he's trying to hard. The way the Kimmel show is looking, Simmons may be back to full time work with ESPN... I for one will be happy.
I didn't watch Kimmel's show, but if it gets tired, Simmons will likely be one of the people responsible for that. I never thought Kimmel was that funny anyway. I always liked Adam.
Personally, I prefer TMQ -- probably because I'm more of a Gregg Easterbrook than a Bill Simmons in real life (and on this board, for that matter). drapg, your assessment of TMQ's style is pretty accurate, but I like that myself. I also don't mind the length -- sure, it takes me 20 minutes to read, but what else am I going to do at work? For further entertainment (or not), here's a link to Easterbrook's columns at Slate, where he started TMQ.
