I wonder what people would say if, before the trade, someone created a thread asking who the best SG would be in 3 years.
Wade- agree with posters who say he will be too old George- kinda think he'll be disqualified by that point because he'll play SF Gordon- Maybe, but as a rockets fan who has put up with injured stars for the better part of a decade, would you really take that chance? Harden might be best by default. SG seems like an increasingly barren spot, getting squeezed by PGs and SFs.
Tier 1:Wade/Kobe (One of them will still be around) Tier 2: Harden,Gordon,,Joe Johnson,Monta Ellis Tier 3: Klay Tompson,Marshon Brooks,Paul George,Tyreke Evans,Kevin Martin,Jason Terry, etc. Only one who I can see who can move into Tier 1 is Harden and maybe Gordon if he shows his true potential and stays healthy
Sure, he's qualified for the Rockets as SG because he's 6'9 and is listed as PF. Too bad, they cut a couple of them yesterday.
What does that mean in the grand scheme of things? I don't care about top5 sg, hwre will he be in terms of players? What if he's top 5 sg, but 25th best player in the game because other positions are loaded? Martin is top 5 sg,but he's nowhere closein termsz of players. Lbj,durant, paul, williams, westbrook, howard, melo, griffin just to name a few will be better than harden in that frame.
There are more sides to basketball than offense. Harden is easily the better playmaker, but Gordon is easily the better defender.
We need to accept that Harden may have just had a career year last year in terms of efficiency (it is a huge jump from his 1st 2 years). He also isn't likely to be as efficient as the focal point of a team. I certainly don't expect him to be that efficient again. I still think Wade will be the guy in 3 years. I hope it is Harden.
I don't see his "huge" jump. His TS% went from .55 to .60 to .66. Even if he goes back to ~.60 TS%, that's still Kevin Martin territory. And he achieved that in his 2nd year. And he did this while being a capable initiator of the offense.
i suspect there'd be more people saying 'positions don't matter', or 'none of these young guys will be good enough to catch old timers'. I suspect there'd be a few Paul George votes, i've seen some pretty delirious statements about him here, at times it seemed that he has more hype among the Rockets fans than he does in Indiana. And I suspect there'd be more 'someone new' votes. Recent drafts didn't lack All Star SG talent, it's just that some of them got injured, and some of them got turned into point guards. Before the trade, this board had a pretty negative feel when it comes to Harden. I felt like a pretty extreme Hardon lover here.
