McHale is still a largely unproven and inexperienced coach and we seem to be ready to start making a real push either this season or next. Do we really trust McHale to coach a championship caliber team and how long does he now have to prove it?
He and Morey are both in the hot seat, hence this deal, it is all or nothing, if they have a lottery team or a middling squad like the last few years, it will be the end of the line probably for both.
Is that straight from Les's mouth? What gives you the idea that they're on the hot seat? I would imagine this is just phase 1 of Morey's plan, why can him at the start and risk another gm messing everything up.
people like mchale embrace and need this kind of pressure just to feel at ease.....he probably hasn't smiled this much in years as he has the past 18hrs
As a succesful head coach he is. Playing and coaching are two different situations while playing may help it doesn't correlate to being a good or bad coach.
Unproven and inexperienced? Sounds like he'll fit right in with this team. The Harden trade makes it even harder to predict how good or bad the team will be this season. With all of the new players who haven't played together before and the lack of experience, it's just about impossible to venture a guess with any certainty. But it'll be exciting to see the high-scoring backcourt paired with the strong defensive frontcourt. I think McHale gets a lot of leeway because of the inexperience of the team. Not much pressure on him at all.
For McHale's sake, he better get along really well with Lin and Harden. He already couldn't get along with Lowry and Martin. If it happens with Lin and Harden you can bet it's going to be McHale's job.
Again, the board fills with ignorant haters. McHale did an admirable job last season, given the lack of preseason, injuries and compressed schedule. Exhaustion finally hit the team right when they were poised to nab the 6th seed. As far as pissing off players? The team's way or the highway is the right way to go. Basketball is still is a team sport. Works well for Pop and SA. And the candy on the cake is that the Rockets look like they may be developing a serious defense again. It had been missing since the JVG era. If a team's players all feel that they are contributing, buy into the offensive and defensive strategies, and are winning they will be happy. Unless there is a bad apple or two, constantly whining and b****ing. Again see Pop and the SA franchise.
