Rockets won tonight that means that the Rockets will win it all and that Rudy should be coach of the year, Steve Francis should be the MVP, and Yao Ming should be Rookie of the year. That sounds ridiculous right? I mean just because the Rockets beat Memphis is no reason to jump to those kinds of conclusions. Well the same goes for all those that are ready to bail on the Rockets just because they've lost four in a row lately. I know it's not just that they lost but how they lost. It's true they were some really ugly games, that were pathetic, and when thinking about watching the Memphis game I almost cringed, because it has been so ugly lately. But putting it all into perspective, we have a great rookie, one of the best if not the best backcourt in the league, we're over .500, are defense this year has been better, and we are right in the thick of things as far as the playoff picture goes. Furthermore in the Laker game with the pressure on, and the stakes high the Rockets performed when they had to, and did what it took to win in a huge game. So they've showed that when the going gets tough they can perform well. Let's put the whole season into perspective. We've hit a bad stretch, before that we had a good stretch where we won 8 of 10. The season is only half way done, their is time for more improvement, or even to get worse, either way it's too early to judge. Do any of you think the team should give up? Then why should the fans give up on the team. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be disappointed in the horrible play lately, but again let's look at the whole picture.
FB- My sentiments exactly. The Hornets, Lakers, Phili have all had their losing streaks as well, but all these team (including Rox) are still in it. I wish people wouldn't panic and scream Bloody Mary after each loss. Have faith in the champs-to-be and enjoy the ride.
FB -- you are my hero!! I've felt many of the same things as you, but I didn't say anything for fear of being ridiculed mercilessly. Great way to put things into perspective. Now let's go beat Dallas!!
Blade, I am a realist, but I would love to have to eat my words and for you to be right. Keep the faith, maybe it will rub off on some of us cynical types. DD
Good post. I dont necessarily disagree but there are certain areas that definitely cause concern. Without wasting file space to list them all because everyone here read our problems a million times already, in my opinion, these problems are NOT going away. Dont get me wrong. As you have illustrated, there are many things that we should be grateful about. But on the other hand, you have to acknowledge that we have some very fundamental problems hindering the team. If you agree with this observation, you should also agree that our problems are not just gonna go away with time. Sooner or later, the Rox organization will have to address and correct the issues. I prefer the sooner. Resolutions may involve trades, firings, a firmer structure, new hirings or a combination of all of them. But to use the wait and see approach is clearly wrong in my humble opinion.
Here's my preference in descending order: 1. Watching Rockets play smart basketball and win. 2. Watching Rockets play stupid/crappy basketball and win. 3. Watching Rockets play smart basketball and lose. 4. Watching Rockets play stupid/crappy basketball and lose. Rockets performance falls either in number 2 or number 4. I want to see either no 1 or 3. Rockets problem is not just losing games, you know.
I think though, that we have to temper our feelings of frustration with patience. Seriously, we aren't even half-way done with the season, and if you were to read this board, we are an awful team deserving of nothing above than trading away everyone, firing everybody, and starting over. I agree that we've played lots of awful basketball. But let's not forget that we've played lots of awesome basketball as well. Let's wait and see how things go in the second-half of the season. No matter what, you shouldn't make any drastic changes right now, especially in the coaching department. Save drastic movement for the off-season, not for mid-season, as we are virtually assured another lottery season (without our pick, I might add). Right now, we are above that, and fi the team keeps playing at our current clip, we will be in the playoffs.
thank you, my words exactly.. just couldn't put it so profoundly.. I am so sick of negativity! I have a feeling the Rockets are going to come up BIG after the All-Star break.. the "heart of a champion" will set in, and they will get ready to LIFT off!
When we make the playoffs this year, it will probably be a lower seed, hence, we will be matched up with a team like Dallas or Sacramento. Therefore, our chance of losing in the 1st round is pretty good and would be expected. Be a man and make a real bet, Bet someone $1,000 that the Rockets will not make the playoffs intead of proposing something ridiculous like that just to make yourself look good.
Woo Hoo! About time you got involved hoss.... FB, good thread...Thanks! Vengeance, exactly! Good things come to those who have the patience to wait out the bad times. Almost every team in the league gets a full season to see if their lineup can do anything, why should we break up the team and trade off everyone because of a few problems during the first half of the season? We shouldn't. Thank God that the Rockets dont listen to a bunch of knee-jerking fans on an internet BBS when it comes to roster moves. If they did, we wouldnt have anyone left except for Yao.
I agree with a lot of what you said F Blade but... I have never been so pessimistic about our team after a road win. Maybe I'm crazy (and dont get me wrong...I'll take a win anytime we can get one, especially on the road). I keep watching the games and cant help but thinking that we are closer to the lotto than we are to the 7 slot. I hope I am wrong but I just am having a hard time picturing us in the playoffs.
If someone takes out Sacramento early, I think we have the best outside chance of winning. I mean, apart from the probable champions (SAC, DAL, LAL, NJ, IND) and whoever else you think has a good chance, I think we have the most potential for a surprise upset win in the first round at least. I'd love to face the Mavs. Anyone but Sacramento actually. About this thread, it's only natural for everyone to freak out after you're longest losing streak of the season. We wont last night, but that doesn't mean we don't still have the same problems. I'm happy we won, but we didn't accomplish anything last night. We still need to give Yao the ball more, we still need Griffin to show some consistency, Mobley to be a little less careless, and Francis to have less TO's. There was one positive: MoT. Paired with Posey (who grabs tons of long rebounds) and Ming (who grabs all the short rebounds), if he gets his offense back, it could really ignite us. His rebounding defficiencies are covered well with Posey, Ming, and Francis. But our defense si so much better with Griff. Good problem to have. let's see if Mo can keep this play up. It would be incredible to have the old Mo back. Our assists would go up big time, and Francis can concentrate on getting the ball to Cato, Ming, and Mo and he, himself, can score late in the game, or when we can't buy a basket. We just need one F to click and start making his J consistently.
