I think you're too stuck up into tanking that you do not realize that EVERY top 5 draft picks AREN'T an elite level star coming out of college. They FIRST have to prove themselves and develop. Harden was a top 5 pick and already proved himself in this league. He's STILL developing his game and is a young all-star. It's actually accelerating your process of "tanking" WITHOUT the risk and you're still complaining?
Well Harden has improved every year he's been in the league, at 23 we can't just expect that to stop. I think the Rockets are rolling the dice on this, lets just hope it works out. Sometimes a team trades a player like this and he breaks out on his new team into something more. With how his improvement has been going and also Start trying to name the SGs that are better than Harden right now at this moment. Good luck with this.
Okay so basically because we don't have a top 10 or top 5 player in the NBA, we should tank? And you expect to get that kind of player from a draft? Wtf is wrong with you? Ain't no top 5 NBA player comming from the draft anytime soon. And if you really believe that this kind of player will come from a draft, why don't you use that faith to our own YOUNG players or Harden who already proved to be an all-star? NBA superstars are not coming out of nowhere. They are all rookies at one point that develop into good players and then become superstars. We got PLENTY of young players that havent reached their full potential yet.
Most top 5 players come into the league once every 5 years, if you are lucky. Most top 5 players get drafted at the top of the draft. Your brilliant idea is to sit here and tank for decades in hope of lucking into a #1 pick that just happens to be the year where a top 5 player actually comes out? And heaven forbid, if the year we luck into a #1 pick, he only turns out to be a top 20 or top 10 perennial allstar. What in the world would we do then, as he ****blocks us from that elusive top 5 player? Oh right, WE TRADE HIM FOR MORE PICKS. And keep tanking. Your plan is brilliant only if you want the Houston Rockets eventually calling another city home.
Other than mr. eyebrows, since that dreadful May when Yao walked off staples arena, there have been zero players in the lottery that I would take over Harden. Some will say Blake, but I'm still more impressed for his commercials than actual play. John wall? gross. Tanking isn't easy. Not only do you have get over on commissar stern's tomfooleries and be worst than the bobcats. but you also have to get lucky and hope that a talent like harden is there..that doesn't always happen.
Eh, Mr. Eyebrows seems like a lock for an impact player, but from what I have seen, he is far from a top 5 player in the NBA(or even having the potential for that). Therefore, according to guys like Raven, you trade him for an unprotected 1st before he causes too much winning and gets in the way of further tanking. There is always next year's draft.
I'm thrilled with the acquisition of Harden. Thrilled. One of my favorite players who wasn't wearing Rocket Red. Love it. But let's not forget that Morey, himself, said before last season began that it's a lot easier to rebuild when you lose. I hate that the internet message board brings out factions among a fan base. That anytime any thing Rocket related happens, someone has to post an "I told you so" thread. Really glad message boards didn't exist (or if they did I was clueless of them) during the Rockets championship runs. It was a lot more fun that way.
At the end of the day, the Rockets received the best player in the trade and he happens to be a by all accounts great guy and player. Much needed news around here.
Shabazz, the guy you've been raving about, is compared to Harden. Isn't the goal of tanking to get a guy of Harden's caliber or (if lucky) better? It's not he's in his prime; he's only 23 (a year younger than Dmo) and at an all-star level now.
holy ****! stop being a pessimist. we get a player that puts up those numbers... a player we NEED and haven't had. Once we get him all you worry about is if he can maintain it? AT LEAST WE GOT SOMEONE WHO PUT UP THOSE NUMBERS! I would like to see your breakdown of women... elbows too pointy, fingers too knobby, etc...
I don't think anyone realistically thinks that Morey is "done". This is just one (big) step up in the process of building a legitimate contender - he knows that as much as you do, which is why I suggested that only now should Morey be fairly evaluated going forward. Scoring-wise, Harden should give this team 23-29 PPG. That's pretty darn good, and his defense is much better than Martin's. For those who are distraught with this trade, understand this: Morey's not done. This team is not a title contender. A trade could happen this year, but it might have to wait until the offseason. Regardless, this trade is a BIG step in the right direction. Can you agree?
Oh I certainly agree this was a great trade and a step in the right direction. After thinking about it more and seeing the potential directions for Morey I like it even more. We gave up a minimal amount for a guy who is a legit 23 year old star player. I have my doubts about if he can be a "franchise"/go-to type player, but it's pretty freakin nice have a guy with his talents on the Rockets. Plus he is extremely efficient and easy to build around. That said I still can't see this team winning more than 35 games at the very best this year. There is still A LOT of work ahead for Morey, but it is nice having Harden now.
lol well I was just reacting and not thinking too much. I was a bit drunk last night . It's a great deal and the franchise is going in the right direction with this move. My major spaz out last night was giving a max contract to him. In my mind I was still thinking that a max contract for him was a lot more expensive. The reality is that this max contract for Harden is a good value at $80 mil for 5 years. As I said before I still don't see Harden being a #1 type player, but let's hope he can be or that Morey can pull another rabbit out of his hat.
Heh...no lie... http://nbadraft.net/players/shabazz-muhammad They also compared Harden to Manu http://nbadraft.net/players/james-harden which they hit the nail on the head. If Harden can be Roy in his short prime but more of a playmaker Rockets won big time here.
Notes: THESE TEAMS (outside of SAS) GET FAs at will. Rockets DON'T (as last few years have shown) - LAL - Shaq, who build up Kobe. Now they have Dwight - SAS - Duncan, who they drafted because they tanked (didn't play David Robinson even though all accounts said he was healthy). - BOS - Used a tanked season to trade for Allen, then used all the other assets on Garnett. 3 already good lotto picks together. - NYK - LOL since when are they good????!? That said Melo PUSHED to go to NYK. - Miami - Oh I dunno Lebron James This was by far the WORST argument I've ever seen. This just proves my point on how tanking is necessary unless you are LAL, Miami, or New York.
Couldn't agree more, this is a step in the right direction. Morey did the right thing by making moves to get a young, talented group together that will contend in the future. It's a long-term strategy of growth that will pay off much like a long-term investment portfolio. Now, let's see if we can keep the core group of young players together, so they can continue to develop into a championship-caliber team. It may take a couple of years, but I like this direction the team is taking.
