drapg, if they would have made their freaking FTs and lay-ups, it wouldn't have been an issue. Collison would look awesome in a Rockets uniform. He'll be very serviceable in the nba.
R95, Sutton is rated the #15 player in Florida, 81st overall. He was a wide receiver, and thankfully, we're very deep there for the next 3 years or so and next year we'll clean up at WR and OL again (think Nathan Jones from Texarkana). Price is a punter; we have 5 of those at UT, one of them has to be good. Also, Robert Reid's kid likes us. Good news for next year. Not to turn this into a recruiting thread, but some believe one "down year" in recruiting (for Mack, a non top ten class) is not the end of the world. Always good to have playmakers, but Sutton doesn't hurt so much. Even after Roy, BJ and Sloan leave for the nfl, the wide receiver depth chart will look something like this in 2004: Jeffrey/Sweed/Marquis Johnson(?)/Brian Carter Timmons/Gatewood/Pittman/Miksch That's more than serviceable.
FT's and layups hurt us in the 2nd half. But our main problem was that our defense didn't step up in the second half. Hinrich and Collison were almost scoring at will. Allen Fieldhouse is a damn hard place to play, and the Horns fought until the end. Oh, and Brandon Mouton seriously needs to work on his awkward ballhandling. Before last year I said Drew Gooden was the best college player in the nation. Before this season, I said Collison was the best in the nation. I guess I was right again. He's going top-10 for sure.
Collison absolutely ate Thomas's lunch. I can't believe how many lay ups we missed. Also, TJ is great, but he missed some easy shots as well. That Miles kid is something else. Cohen, yep. Ofa says no Texas.
The Ofa elimination hurts, though it would be nice to add depth at WR, considering the pick ups at this year, Sutton is not as painful.
We'll have to wait another year for Marquis, but he'll have 3 years left. Losing Price hurts because our special teams will not be very good next year. Bradford, Trahan, Ungar, and Hightower all graduate. Dan Smith and Taylor Landin should compete for the punter spot. Wasn't too worried about the Sutton decommit. He'll probably get more early PT at NC State. Also, I would hardly call this a down year for the Horns. Sure it's hard to top last year, when Mack absolutely cleaned house. But this year's class has some gems in Hardeman, Griffin, Hills, and Thornton.
Speculation has it that Thornton was just offered, he was headed to OSU until this weekend. Glad he's aboard. His brother is a stud at DE and he bleeds orange. It's not a down year, but Mack didn't dominate Texas like he usually did. I mean, he swept the year of the WR, OL, and DL consecutively. Maybe some things are catching up with him. This class is not as deep as last years (which was incredible), but there are difference makers. Hills, Griffin, Brown, Hardeman, Killebrew, etc. Also, I think Billy Pittman will be the next Vasher, somewhere on the field.
Do you think that the depth/quality of last year would make it more difficult for this year (i.e. PT)?
It gets difficult to dominate Texas when we keep losing to OU. Notice guys like Dotson, Pleasant and Cade all chose OU.
well, not really. It seems as if Mack recruits to the strengths of a certain year. I don't have last years class in front of me, but I remember it was the year of the DTs. I mean, Martin (who is so athletic that he played RB some in high school, and who some consider better than Wright), Wright, Dibbles, Pittman, etc was an absolute incredible haul. The year before, Mack landed 7 OLs. That too me is amazing. Alot of these guys had offers from OU, ATM, Miami, etc. What Mack seens to sell is "we have x amount of upperclassmen leaving, and I know I've already recruited 5 guys like you at your position, but I will promise that you will have a chance to compete." So, I think recruits look at it in a two year span. Stud QB Chris Leak all but said that he would not attend Texas because of Vincent Young. Next year, I predict Texas cleans up at OL and WR; the 01 class of beef become sophmores and juniors, so playing time is inevitable. The big 3 leave at WR and the returning upperclassmen will likely be unproven sophmores (Sweed, Johnson, etc.) I think last year's DL haul may have hurt this years. Texas is still deep at almost every position. 3rd string AA players. Albert Hardy, a relative unknown in the UT program, was a top 100 type player in high school He committed to Texas even though Benson was there and he probably knew Selvin Young was coming as well. He just believed in himself. Unfortunately, I think he's moved to FB or LB. But, those are the breaks. There's a pic of him with his shirt off, unbelievable physical specimen. Also is pretty fast. I think what has kind of hurt Mack this year is the losses to OU and no conference titles.
I think Crowder and potentially Moss have something to do with Dotson. Cade hurt. Stoops is the ****.
I'm not really dissapointed in Texas tonight. I don't care how they are ranked, KU in Allen Fieldhouse is a very tough game. And we were playing KU and the refs for the last 7 minutes or so, that bump on Klotz was terrible, and we couldn't buy a call if we got hammered. And that on the floor call on JT's bucket was ridiculous. We did fine though, and we will be a top team in the tourney.
This may become a trend, if A&M can do much of anything this year. UT would still manage a top 5-10 ranking with recruiting, but if Fran can work any magic in A&M, then A&M should be able to recruit top 10-15 talent. I know they have a good class, but they still got raped by OU and UT for the top notch recruits. Only Jason Jack and a couple other guys would be OU or UT worthy. As a non-OU, UT or A&M fan, I'm interested to see how big of a recruiting turf war it'll be in TX when A&M can be good again. It will be like FSU-Miami-UF.
You can always count on Brandon Mouton to screw up if the game is on the line. And what was up with that three that Harris shot. I guess it was Okay because he got it off early, but they could have gotten a better shot.
