We'll be playing from behind against definite superior teams like LAL, OKC, Denver, etc. A small ball lineup isn't going to faze them. On top of that I actually think Asik would be the best 5 on the floor for a small ball lineup since he is the superior boarder and defender. I've been waiting to see what we looked like going small and overplaying the perimeter defensively with him in the middle. I think a small ball lineup with overplaying defense with Asik anchoring the middle could be very, very problematic for the opponent. There's one thing for certain. This is an entirely different team with Asik on the floor vs. when he goes to the bench. We get stops when he is on the floor. When he is not, our D looks like a water sieve.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Getting ready for the new season...so pumped....even my goats are excited (they don't know I'm going to eat them soon...lol)! <a href="https://twitter.com/search/%23rockets">#rockets</a></p>— Omer Asik (@the_omer_asik) <a href="https://twitter.com/the_omer_asik/status/262277280733220865" data-datetime="2012-10-27T19:39:11+00:00">October 27, 2012</a></blockquote> <script src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> And it looks like people underestimated his rebounding ability prior to preseason... I'm still hoping for better shot blocking production.
It's not. Show he has a sense of humor. I love goat meat by the way. https://twitter.com/Nick_Mathews/rockets
2k was close enough! According to basketball-reference. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/asikom01.html
I was right about his rebounding, blocks, pts, fg%, FT% and steals. but thought he would play more minutes
Assuming they put him through the tennis ball catching practice and he actually benefits from it, I would say it would not be unreasonable to expect a 15/11-12 season out of him. Asik loses out on the opportunity to get more points due to the following: - Missed passes due to stone hands - Missed shots because he tries to lay it in instead of hammering the ball home - Missed free throws because he sucks at them Better hands will help him catch more passes and convert them into points as he rolls towards the rim. As long as he doesn't forget he is a 7 footer and hammers it home as often as he can, he will get more points and more foul shots. Since CD is working with him on that already, I think he can also raise his FT% to 65% or more.
Uh, he averaged 10 points this year. Barring a signing for Dwight Howard or any injuries he should be able to maintain that. 9.9 ppg 2.1 bpg 12.4 rpg 54% FG 59% FT
safe to say based on everyone's prior season predictions that Asik overachieved or surpassed expectations. Hope he stays on and shows us what he can do after an offseason working on some post moves! Great guy to have on the team. Rebounding--elite Defense--elite Blocks--avg but can improve Scoring--decent. 16 ppg shouldn't be out of the question Court awareness/IQ--above average. Def. improved during the season Passing--slightly above average. I think he's better than he's shown.
This thread was from last summer. The predictions have been made. I bumped it so people could compare with his finals stats.
Lol. I was getting annoyed people were expecting him to average less points than this season... then I saw the date this was posted. I think he surprised everyone this year and I wouldn't be surprised if he increases his scoring next year.
When numbers are used without bias, they tend to be pretty accurate. It is typically more surprising when people consistently rise above the expected norm.
