Yeah, it's weird. We're actually #1 in offense and third to last in defense.

Kind of the exact opposite of my eye test. Maybe it's because I'm expecting way more out of Lin and kind of just assume the defense is good with Asik.

We're ranked 10th on defense, not sure if you're looking at the correct chart.

Blaming all on Scola is totally wrong but this is a team game and this current roster D is way better than last years team D. It will only get better as the season rolls along and this why this team will prove the nay sayers wrong and the team will make the playoffs.:)

I'm going by opposing team PPG as you can see from my link.

Not sure where you get #10 from. We're 25th in opposing FG%. I can't find PPG adjusted for pace, but I doubt we're as high as #10 in that.

how do you get this conclusion?

FYI, Rockets allowed 98 pts per game from opponents last season, and gave up 102 pts per game in this preseason so far.

Perhaps it could be that we slack off a little when we're leading by a lot in the 4th quarter.

I seriously doubt we're going to be better at defense this season than we were last season. Preseason is a different animal. The Rockets seem to always do well in preseason, and then the wheels fall off in the regular season, so brace yourselves.

Asik is really the only reason for hope. Calembert was nice last season, but they had trouble staying on the court. Maybe Patterson/Jones will be better than Scola/Patterson, but rookies are generally infamously bad at defense. Lee, Dragic, and Lowry were all pretty decent defenders we've lost. If you think Martin is suddenly going to be a good defender after a full career of being below average, you've got another thing coming. Delfino is probably a better defender than Budinger, but we're not going to gain a lot of ground on that.

They're mostly referring to how good the D is with Asik and our regular rotation players on the floor. That's mainly when it has looked impressive.

As an aside, could one of the mods fix the title?

I understand English is not be the first language of some posters but it hurts my head every time I read some of these mangled grammatical constructions.

Asik and better pf play on that end is huge. The length on the wings only adds. But you gotta give some credit where it's due, Lin may not be better man on man than lowry and dragic, but he gambles well. The dude is an absolute thief. That's why I'm not as down on him as others. The turnovers hurt, but they'll get fixed eventually. He's a great rebounder, he gets his dimes, and he gets steals. If the shooting woes continue, he's still not a bad starting player.

Ricky Rubio's impact on the wolves was not on the offensive end. It was because of his defense. I believe when he was off the floor the opposing team scored lik 7 or 8 more points. Offensively the wolves were better with rubio off the floor than on. That was because individually rubio was not a great threat offensively. When meaningful games starts it will be fun to dig in deeper into advanced statistics and see how players impact the team.

Jones over Scola defensively, Martin looks like he's trying too. Lin can cause some turnovers too.

i know, Rubio's awesome. Smart, high energy, can stay in front basically anyone. Also, he gets a ton of steals while not over-gambling, unlike e.g. CP3 used to be in his early years.
I don't know that his defensive upside is huge, since he's not a typical rook, or a super athlete, and he got injured... but that was an extremely impressive PG rookie year defensively.

i just wonder where Lin compares. Lin's not horrible, but he doesn't remind me of Rubio defensively, so i wonder where the comparisons are coming from.
Lin reminds me of a young CP3 much more defensively, just not as quick.

although that's a pretty bad comparison too, on the second thought. i can't think of a good one.

    anyway, it doesn't really matter.

i just got curious when i read that original comparison.
