This season is maybe in the middle for me. Most episodes are good, but so far there hasn't been a major "threat" nemesis started already. I guess the Eastern European Mob guy might be it, but the thing that made the major antagonist great in the other season was how Dexter was close to them and involved with them. Before he would get close with the bad guys for different reasons, and work up how he was going to kill them. This guy is just an opponent and both Dexter and the opponent know it. Then there was the scene where Dexter killed Victor in the airport. Plenty in the show has stretched the plausibility realm but this one was just ridiculous. This last episode was really good. I'm somewhat interested to see what happens with Deb, and Dexter. I like this season. I don't think it stands out as one of the best, but it is good. I loved seasons 1,2, and 3. Season 4 (I think that was the trinity killer John Lithgow season) was the best. I think it's one of the best seasons of anything. The season with Julia Stiles was one of the worst seasons.
The Russian mob guy is definitely it. He knows about Dexter now and is trying to track him down...they just haven't really interacted yet. They'll get there though.
nah, the Julia Stiles one wasn't that bad, it was last season with Travis. He was just such an annoying r****ded villain.
Season 5 would have been awesome if Deb found out about Dexter. The whole speaking through the curtain thing was f'n r****ded.
Right, but any interaction won't have the same level of tension because the the mob guy is already after Dexter, and that's known. In other seasons there was the cat and mouse game kind of going on with the antagonist. The stakes in the interaction just won't be as high.
I guess we disagree. Last season was a definite step up from the Julia Stiles season. I agree with what rocket03 said, that speaking through the curtain was ridiculous. The whole ending was stupid. But a sub par season of Dexter is still better than most television. The interaction with the bad guy/motivational speaker was good stuff and decent suspense.
I mean I don't think I necessarily think that's 100% true. I'm willing to let the writers have the whole season to work with before I declare it less intense or whatnot than other seasons. We're only 4 episodes in, so it's not really fair to declare it already not going to be as high stakes or exciting as other seasons.
I dont think the Russian mob guy is going to last more than a few episodes. The blonde girl who was that Wayne guy's "Robin with better legs" might be or lead up to a more substantial antagonist. Either that or La Guerta.
I feel like there's not going to be a real enemy this season as they're preparing for the series finale next season. I think this is all just lead up in to next season rather than having this as a stand alone season. I'm preparing for a weak ending/cliff hanger this season.
I'm not writing the series off by any means. I don't even think it's the worst season or anything like that. I just think it's in the middle. But I'll definitely still watch, and it's possible that there will be an intense build up and it could be one of the best seasons.
Another great episode as Season 7 just continues to be awesome. Even the clear "set-up" episodes are highly enjoyable. Just imagine the final few episodes...
The whole Dexter walking through the Colombian bar with the Russian following was freakin awesome! Guessing he puts a hit out on Dexter from prison.
he's got to escape somehow or get out because of a legal discrepancy or something. Or Quinn will break him out sine the Kashka's are paying him now
This season is better than last's. Still, Deb's constant whining and crying and cursing routine is pretty damn annoying. And does anyone get the feeling that the writers are still trying to push the "Dexter and Debra secretly have feelings for eachother that goes beyond brother-sister affection" angle? I really hope that doesn't become a storyline.
I agree. Last night's episode was great, but I still hate Deb's acting. Everything just seems so forced with her.
God that scene in the hotel when they were going to sleep was really pushing that unecessary storyline again....Between the music, their conversation and what they were wearing it was pretty awkward.
I think Deb's acting has gotten alot better this year. She is not winning any Emmys any time soon, but she is not as bad as she used to be.
