It isn't Calipari. It's because the players are good. He's just the best at closing the sale with the most talented HS seniors and their parents.
1) No comment on the "sale" stuff. 2) And that's what I meant. Obviously it's the players over the coach...but Callipari has consistently shown his ability to develop players quick and efficiently, and then get them to the NBA fast. Much more than any other coach. It's undeniable.
The only thing undeniable is he's the best salesman in college basketball. These same players could go a lot of places, develop "quick & efficiently" and bolt to the NBA after one year. Cal doesn't develop guys more than anyone else; he's just the best at snagging the top players. That is all.
Wiggins reclassifying. Top pick in 2014 draft barring serious injury. How does Morey convince Les to tank next season?
Maybe not bottom 3, but maybe bottom 8 ? Baring any major trade for a border line all-star, chances are were probably going to get younger next season. I mean guys like Kevin Martin, Shaun Livingston and Carlos Delfino only have one year on their contract, and not to mention we will be bringing in more rookies next year with both of our probable lottery picks in 2013. Again baring any major trade, the only thing we will be counting on in terms of improvement will be the improvement of our young team overall. Which I think they will improve, but probably not significantly. I mean the thunder still struggled early on with Durant, Green and some vets, even with Durant and Green having more then a year under their belt. I think we can be bad enough in 2013-2014 to get one of the blue ship players in 2014: Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle, Jabari Parker, Andrew Harrison, Steven Adams, Aaron Harrison. I mean it's a lottery, we don't have to have the worst record to get a top 3 pick, just be near the bottom to give ourselves a good chance.
That's a major part of it. Of course, I doubt Daniel Orton would have been a first rounder had he gone to any other school.
Yeah, hopefully we can trade Martin, PPat for future picks, not this year, but in 2014, the more we can get (hopefully unprotected) the better chance of landing one of the top picks, even if we are not gawd awful.
It really appears like Wiggins is going to be a very special player, so this is big news. That 2014 draft is going to be an interesting one just based on the likely one-and-dones of Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Julius Randle and the Harrison twins -- Andrew and Aaron Harrison (though Andrew, being the PG, seems rated higher). Rockets look like they could have a great position for the 2013 Draft, but will likely just have their own pick (if in lottery) in 2014. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Raptors this year... I'd love for them to make the playoffs and suck next year, but being a young team, it's not likely they will come together and be good enough for an 8th seed or higher finish in the East, then be worse the following season. I'm not sure if any team, even the best in the league, will trade a completely unprotected 2014 pick right now.
No, no one is going to trade a 2014 lottery pick. But will some team perhaps desperate to win this year be willing to do a pick swap. Denver still holds the Knicks 14 first rounder or actually the higher of their or the Knicks 14 first rounder. Don't see any pick protection on that 14 pick anywhere for the Knicks. Could we entice them at the trade deadline to deal that pick swap to us if we give them a piece or two to compete with the Big 2 in the West?? Could we basically do the same thing with Dallas, help them by giving them a key piece or two in exchange for re-arranging those draft pick terms we currently have on their first rounder? If Toronto is close to the playoffs this season, could we give them a piece to get them over the hump in the East in exchange for a slight change in the pick rights we own, perhaps, they change it to unprotected in 2014 and we get the opportunity to swap spots with them if we are both in the lottery?? If there is one season to go all out for the top pick, it is 2014. Wiggins is the best prospect since ..... Lebron. Those kind only come along every 10 years or so.
Wiggins has officially re-classified. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/r...gins-reclassifies-class-2013-new-no-1-recruit
Honestly, if the Rockets ended up with Andrew Harrison then that would be absolutely awesome. I see PG as the team's biggest weakness going forward.
Yup, that's what is going to hurt the most..there's absolutely zero chance now with this move that we are rebuilding the old fashioned way. Leslie and his short term vision..
it's really on Morey- he's a sociopath who couldn't stomach being out of the spotlight for the majority of the season.
